Ford and Mahindra recently announced that the brand will not be continuing the joint-venture which was announced in the second half of 2018. Under the JV, both the brands planned to launch a number of vehicles in the Indian market which also included a Ford upcoming C-SUV. However, with the JV coming to an end, what are the future plans of Ford for the Indian market? Read on to find it out.
Under the JV, Ford was planning to launch a couple of new SUVs which would be a 5-seat SUV and a 7-seat SUV. The Ford upcoming C-SUV, codenamed W605, will be based on the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 and will go on sale early next year. Despite the discontinuation of the JV, the Ford W605 will share its powertrain options with the XUV500. The second SUV, on the other hand, has been codenamed as Ford VX-722 and will rival against the cars like the Creta and the Seltos. The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 will share its underpinnings with the Ford VX-722.

Apart from these, the brand is also working on launching three products form its global line-up which includes Focus, Focus ST, and the Ford Raptor. All these vehicles will be imported in the country via the CBU route and will be positioned as more premium offerings from the brand. The Focus ST is also known to be one of the most fun to drive hatchbacks in the market. The next-gen Mustang is also expected to be launched in the Indian market in the coming years.
The brand is also planning to launch the updated Ecosport which will be getting a new, 1.2-L turbocharged mStallion petrol engine which is expected to be sold along with the 1.5-L TDCi engine. The turbo engine is expected to be more powerful and will complement the overall fun to drive nature of the car. Automatic variants of the Aspire and the Figo may also be introduced in the market soon.
