Exterior

The exterior design of the J5 EV is heavily inspired by luxury SUVs, featuring a flat bonnet and headlamps that closely resemble a Range Rover. A signature black roof slopes back to meet the tail lamp area, creating a sophisticated profile. As a dedicated electric vehicle, it features prominent J5 EV branding and a practical electric tailgate. The vehicle provides a deep boot space, particularly if the spare wheel is not included. However, it is noted that the rear doors do not open to a full 90 degrees, which may slightly impact ease of entry for some passengers.
Interior

The cabin is designed to be both spacious and practical, utilizing its "born EV" platform. It features a floating center console that leaves a large open storage area underneath, big enough to fit an iPad. A major highlight is the large vertical touchscreen, reminiscent of the MG Hector, which controls various car functions. For the driver, there is a flat-bottom steering wheel with a glossy finish and a secondary digital display. The interior is detailed with contrast stitching and matching ambient lighting on the seats and door pads. The vehicle offers impressive headroom, comfortably accommodating occupants up to 6 feet tall, though the rear floor is slightly raised.
Powertrain

While some international versions utilise a 60 kWh battery, however in the Indian market this car will come with a battery pack of 50 kWh battery producing 211 hp. This powertrain allows the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds, with a range of approximately 400 km on a single charge. The drivetrain is front-wheel drive, as All-Wheel Drive is not an available option for this model. It may also have three driving modes as well.
Features
The J5 EV is equipped with a tall, tablet-style vertical infotainment system that serves as the central hub for the vehicle. A standout feature is the 50W ventilated wireless charger designed to prevent phone overheating while charging. The vehicle also includes a large sunroof operated directly through the touchscreen interface. For added convenience, the interior offers unique storage solutions like slanted cup holders and multiple dedicated phone slots, alongside power-adjustable seats and premium contrast upholstery.

Verdict
The JSW Jaecoo J5 EV appears to be a promising entrant in India's growing EV space, combining premium design inspired by Range Rover with practical features and competitive performance. Its 50 kWh battery, modern tech-loaded cabin, and strong road presence could make it an appealing choice. However, the lack of AWD and some practicality compromises may influence buyers seeking versatility.
