1. Design

The KTM 390 Enduro R is a dual-sport motorcycle that shares its resemblance with the international model. It gets a large front beak coupled with a sleek body style that is based on the beefier KTM 390 Adventure. You get a single-piece seat with the fuel tank blending in seamlessly. Being a typical dirt-bike styled model, it gets a tapered tail-section with a raised mudguard and a tail lamp with an upswept exhaust improving its capabilities further. This particular model is focused on extreme off-road activities, trumping the capabilities of the Adventure 390 in some cases.

2. Hardware

The bike rolls on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels, fitted with Mitas Enduro Trail tyres. It features fully adjustable WP Apex upside-down forks at the front and a WP monoshock with preload and rebound adjustment at the rear. Braking is managed by disc brakes at both ends, with the option to deactivate ABS on both wheels for better off-road control. For the India-spec model, the seat height has been lowered by 30mm to 860mm, and ground clearance drops by 19mm to 253mm. Suspension travel has also been trimmed down to 200mm at the front and 205mm at the rear. The fuel tank capacity is 9 litres, and the kerb weight is 177 kgs.

3. Features

The KTM 390 Enduro R is kitted out with a 4.2-inch TFT screen that supports Bluetooth, giving riders access to navigation, call and message notifications, and music control right on the display. It offers two riding modes Street and Off-road to suit different terrains, and includes switchable ABS and traction control for better handling. Plus, you get adjustable components like the footpegs, handlebar mounts, and levers for both brake and clutch, letting you fine-tune the bike to your comfort.

4. Engine

Powering the KTM 390 Enduro R is a 398.63cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, the same unit found in the 390 Duke and Adventure models. It delivers 46PS at 8,500 rpm and 39Nm at 6,500 rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. For the Enduro R, KTM has reworked the sprocketing setup to prioritise stronger low-end torque, sacrificing a bit of top speed a power move that makes it better suited for off-road adventures.

5. Price And Rivals

With a price tag of Rs 3,36,500, the KTM 390 Enduro R takes on rivals like the lighter but less powerful Kawasaki KLX230. The dearth of rivals is due to its niche segment that is still in its very early stages in India.

Verdict

KTM is targeting the small section of off-road enthusiats with the Enduro R and could be tetsing the waters if there is enough demand for bigger products in future Is it a volume seller? No. But it sure does what it is meant to do, pretty well. The numbers are expected to be low, but that is what operating in a niche segment looks like and is completly normal.
