Mahindra Scorpio N Gets New Z8 T Variant; ADAS In Z8 L

The Mahindra Scorpio N was already a pretty well-equipped SUV that offered the bridge between the urban-centric XUV700 and the off-road-focused Mahindra Thar. While it offered a pretty rich cabin in terms of features, its off-road capabilities and the highway dynamics are what make it what it is today. However, if there was something more to ask for, was the ADAS, which now even the smaller XUV 3XO offered? As per a leaked document online, the top-spec Z8 L is now finally coming with ADAS, and the launch could happen anytime.

Not just this, a new variant being named the Z8 T, is also being introduced that sits above the Z8 and just below the Z8 L, offering/ an electronic parking brake and autohold as an additional safety net. As for the ADAS, you will get the Level 2 ADAS with the Z8 L trim, including a comprehensive list of features like automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, high beam assist, and many more. This will make it at par with other modern SUVs to offer these driving assist features.

Variants And Powertrain Combination Rejig

Not just this, as per the leaked images, the diesel 4WD will be scrapped from the Z8 model along with the petrol variants, and you will only be able to buy it with a 2WD diesel powertrain with both MT and AT configurations. Notably, the Z8 T and the Z8 L will be available with all the permutations and combinations, including 4WD, 2WD, manual, and automatic. The information is based on the images that are circulating on social media, and while not confirmed at the moment, it looks legitimate and can be officially announced anytime soon.

The Mahindra Scorpio N offers a 2.0L turbo petrol (200 bhp/380 Nm) and a 2.2L diesel with two tunes: 130 bhp/300 Nm or 172 bhp/370-400 Nm (automatic). Both engines get manual or automatic transmissions. Fuel efficiency is claimed at 12.70 kmpl (petrol manual), 12.12 kmpl (petrol auto), and 15.42 kmpl (all diesel variants).
Verdict
The inclusion of ADAS was the missing piece with the otherwise impressive Scorpio N, however its practicality with the Indian road conditions is a debate for some other time. The ADAS suite is something that is the current trend and is pretty useful, especially while cruising on the highways where adaptive cruise control coupled with lane keep assist offers another level of convenience. As for the pricing, you can expect a small uptick in the rate list to adjust for the added tech.
