Hyundai Creta Electric 100 kW DC Fast Charging Now Enabled

The Hyundai Creta Electric now supports DC fast charging of up to 100 kW, a notable jump from the earlier 50 kW limit. With this update, the claimed 10 to 80 per cent charging time has been reduced from 58 minutes to just 39 minutes, making long-distance travel more convenient. Importantly, the upgrade does not impact the SUV's claimed driving range and is purely software-driven.

Hyundai has confirmed that this enhancement will be deployed via an over-the-air (OTA) update, ensuring that existing Creta Electric owners can benefit from the faster charging capability without visiting a service centre or opting for hardware replacements.

OTA Update For Existing Owners

The faster charging support is part of a comprehensive software update involving key vehicle systems such as the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) and Battery Management System (BMS). Reports suggest that owners have already begun receiving notifications from Hyundai service centres regarding the rollout, which will be carried out in phases across the country.

Early real-world tests indicate tangible gains. For instance, a Creta Electric equipped with the smaller 42 kWh battery has reportedly achieved charging speeds significantly higher than before when connected to high-capacity DC chargers, underlining the practical benefits of the update.

Battery Options & Pricing

The Hyundai Creta Electric continues to be offered with two battery pack options. The 42 kWh version claims a range of up to 420 km, while the larger 51.4 kWh Long Range variant offers a claimed 510 km on a single charge. Both battery options are available across multiple trims, giving buyers flexibility in choosing a configuration that suits their needs.

The ex-showroom prices for the Creta Electric start at Rs 18.02 lakh for the smaller battery variant and go up to Rs 23.96 lakh for the Long Range version. A home charging solution can be added at an extra cost, further enhancing ownership convenience.
