The 2026 Kia Seltos is essentially a precursor to the upcoming 2027 Hyundai Creta, as most of the features, driving characteristics, and powertrain options that the new car is expected to offer have already been revealed through the Seltos. The one-year gap will give Hyundai enough time to identify shortcomings and areas of improvement, which can then be implemented in the next-generation model. With the foundation now firmly in place, international testing for the third-generation Creta has already begun.

Even though not much can be decoded from these spy shots, it is still quite evident that this popular SUV has grown in size and now appears wider and longer. This is due to its new K3 platform, which is also capable of supporting a hybrid setup. A hybrid powertrain is likely to be introduced, giving buyers of the Grand Vitara, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the upcoming Duster another strong option to consider. That said, the ultra-refined 1.5-litre diesel engine is unlikely to be discontinued anytime soon. Overall, the new-generation Creta is expected to be offered with four powertrain options.

Though Hyundai's most popular vehicle isn't a perfect car, it is undoubtedly one of the most complete SUVs in its segment. With the arrival of the new generation, everything is expected to be dialled up to eleven - especially considering how the latest Seltos ticks almost every box and offers even more reasons to own it.

Verdict
The next-generation Hyundai Creta is shaping up to be a decisive evolution rather than a radical reinvention - and that's exactly what the segment leader needs. With a larger K3 platform, the likelihood of a hybrid powertrain, and Hyundai's proven ability to fine-tune products by learning from rivals like the new Seltos, the foundation is already rock-solid. If Hyundai manages to address current shortcomings while retaining its refined diesel and broad powertrain strategy, the upcoming Creta won't just defend its crown - it will strengthen it.
