Mahindra Thar 3-door Facelift Spotted; Details

Given that the fenders and bumpers on both ends are camouflaged, we can expect them to be redesigned, and a closer look will also show you that the tail lamps will be borrowed from the Thar Roxx. The alloy rims also appear to be new and are likely to make it to production. The current Thar offers 16-inch steel rims on the AX Opt variants, and 18-inch alloy rims on the LX variants.

The pictures of the Thar 3-door facelift test mule do not really show what's happening on the front, but we can expect the C-shaped headlamps from the Roxx to make their way here, and the grille is also likely to take some inspiration from the same. However, the overall design is going to remain familiar.

On the inside, we can expect things like the steering wheel, centre console, and the instrument cluster to be taken from the Thar Roxx and we can also expect a larger infotainment touch screen, along with some feature additions such as a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, a new sound system and so on.

Under the hood, things are likely to remain the same. The Thar will continue with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel units, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter. The Thar additionally also comes in a 4x2 variant, which also offers a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine option, but it does not get the option of an automatic transmission.

Verdict
The Thar 3-door continues to be an immensely popular car for Mahindra, and the car maker is working on an upgrade to keep it fresh and relevant, in order to maintain its cult status. It still remains a good option to consider for those who can sacrifice the convenience of five doors.
