Maruti Suzuki has launched the Baleno CNG with automatic gearbox (AMT) two weeks after introducing the Baleno facelift. It starts at Rs 8.32 lakh (ex-showroom) and is applicable to only the Delta and Zeta variants. The car was launched yesterday, along with Swift and Dzire CNG-AMT. More information about this iteration of the car below.

So, with a 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine, now customers will get the option of a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Plus, the claimed fuel efficiency of Baleno CNG AMT is 34.47 km/kg. After Tata.cars, Maruti Suzuki has become the second automaker in India to bring the automatic gearbox to a CNG powertrain, with the aim to provide the same level of convenience with this CNG as they get with petrol-powered automatic units.
While the AMT makes the overall driving experience more comfort-oriented, drivers with heavy feet may feel held back, as this gearbox is notorious for its lazy shifts in order to provide the best possible fuel efficiency.

Also, other important information related to this car, which potential customers would not like, is that there is hardly any boot space left. As the space is occupied with a CNG tank, a spare wheel plus all the tools required to change the wheels. Going by the photos, it is hard to tell whether any bags can be fitted, so buyers will have to keep their bags besides their legs.
Vehicle | Baleno CNG-AMT |
|---|---|
Displacement | 1197cc |
Power | 69.75 PS |
Torque | 101.8 Nm |
Gearbox | 5-AMT |
Fuel-Efficiency | 34.47 KM/KG |
Rest, we believe the overall driving experience would be similar to what is offered with the standard Baleno and its CNG counterpart.
Maruti Baleno CNG AMT Price
- Delta CNG + AGS = Rs 8.32 Lakh
- Zeta CNG + AGS = Rs 9.32 Lakh
End Note
This is a clear move by Maruti Suzuki to follow Tata's path, as it realises that a chunk of its CNG market share is being lost to Tata's CNG+AMT cars. It is also an attempt to offer as many variants as possible for each model, so that buyers are not left disappointed and don't look at other brands. That said, the overall experience of this gearbox and fuel combination is really lethargic, though it is rewarding given the stupendous mileage.
