Mercedes-Benz India has added a new limited-edition variant to its two bestselling luxury SUVs - the GLE and GLS - badged the 'Night Edition'. These aren't facelifts or mechanical overhauls; they're visually distinct, specification-specific models aimed squarely at buyers who want something that stands apart in a valet queue. What's Different

The Night Edition treatment is primarily aesthetic. Both SUVs get a blacked-out exterior with two colour choices: Obsidian Black and Alpine Grey. The grey is exclusive to this edition - you won't find it on a standard GLE or GLS. Inside, the changes are more meaningful: black Nappa leather upholstery and Anthracite open-pore oak wooden trim replace the standard interior offerings, and neither is available on regular variants. A Head-Up Display comes fitted as standard on both models.

The GLE Night Edition gets one mechanical upgrade worth noting - Airmatic air suspension, which isn't standard on the regular GLE. The GLS Night Edition, being the flagship, keeps its standard suspension setup, though it already sits higher in the range.

Powertrain options span a 198kW 2.0-litre diesel and a 280kW 3.0-litre petrol for the GLE, while the GLS is offered with the same 280kW petrol or a 270kW 3.0-litre diesel producing a hefty 750Nm. All variants use the 9G-TRONIC automatic and 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
India, notably, ranks among Mercedes-Benz's top global markets for both the GLE and GLS - context that likely explains why this limited series is being offered here at all.
Prices
- GLE 300d Night Edition: Rs 1.05 Cr (ex-showroom)
- GLE 450 Night Edition: Rs 1.14 Cr (ex-showroom)
- GLS 450 Night Edition: Rs 1.41 Cr (ex-showroom)
- GLS 450d Night Edition: Rs 1.43 Cr (ex-showroom)
Verdict
The Night Edition doesn't reinvent either SUV. What it does is bundle genuinely exclusive equipment - the Nappa leather, the trim, the Airmatic on the GLE - into a package you can't replicate by ticking options on the standard configurator. For buyers who care about that distinction, the premium over standard variants is arguably justified. The limited availability only adds to that case.
