Norton Atlas & Atlas Apex

The upcoming ADV by Norton boasts a modern design with all the modern features that you need in an adventure motorcycle. Built along a platform architecture, the Atlas will be available in 2 versions, Standard & Apex. Both these versions features the same powertrain and hardware.
Hardware & Dimensions

Built on a steel trellis frame, the motorcycle gets a cast aluminium swingarm and a single-piece rider and pillion seat. Up front, it features fully adjustable 43mm KYB USD forks with 180mm of wheel travel. At the rear, a KYB monoshock RSU handles suspension duties and offers adjustable damping along with hydraulic preload adjustment. Braking duties are handled by twin 310mm semi-floating discs with Bybre calipers at the front, while a 270mm rear disc takes care of braking at the rear. The motorcycle will be available with both cast alloy and spoked steel wheel options. It rides on a 110/80-19 front tyre and a 150/70-17 rear tyre.
In terms of dimensions, the Atlas weighs 188 kg (without fuel) while the Apex weighs 192 kg (without fuel), offers a seat height of 845 mm, a ground clearance of 220 mm, and a wheelbase of 1,465 mm. The ADV comes equipped with a 15.4-litre fuel tank.

Features

On paper, the upcoming Norton ADV seems to be loaded with convenience and safety features. The Atlas will be equipped with a full-colour 8-inch touchscreen TFT display with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, GoPro control, OTA updates, telematics, and app support. The electronics package consists of keyless ignition, an electronic steering lock, seat lock, fuel filler cap lock, and a USB Type-C charging port, among other features.

The brand has also integrated a number of electronic rider aids to support the five riding modes, namely Urban, Rain, Sport, Tour, and Enduro. The rider aids include Drag Torque Control, ABS, Cruise Control, Wheelie Control, Rear Lift Control, and more. Apart from these rider aids, the ADV will also offer adjustable clutch and brake levers, along with aluminium footpegs featuring removable rubber inserts.

Engine & Specifications

The upcoming Norton Atlas will be powered by a 585cc DOHC parallel-twin engine producing 69 bhp of power and 57.5 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It will be further aided by an assist and slipper clutch. Both the Atlas and Atlas Apex will be powered by the same engine, and there is no difference between the two in terms of specifications.

Launch Timeline
Norton has already revealed the motorcycle's pricing for the UK market, where it starts at 8,250 pounds (approximately Rs 10.56 lakh). The brand is manufacturing the bike at TVS Motor Company's Hosur plant, and it will compete with the BMW 450 GS, Kawasaki Versys 650, and other ADVs. The brand needs to keep the pricing a bit low for the Indian market.
