Hero MotoCorp August 2026 Sales Report: 5.42 Lakh Units, YTD Growth At 17%

Hero MotoCorp shipped 5,68,398 two-wheelers in August 2026, up 2.65% from 5,53,727 units a year ago. Domestic sales stood at 5,42,305 units, with a healthy growth of 4.46% year-on-year, while exports lagged behind. If we look a little deeper into the numbers, the growth isn't coming from motorcycles, the company's traditional bread and butter, actually slipped slightly during the month, while scooters and electric two-wheelers picked up the slack in a big way. Sales also improved over July, pointing to festive-season restocking already underway at dealerships.

Hero MotoCorp August 2026 - Segment-wise sales

Motorcycles still make up the bulk of Hero's business, but their share has been shrinking. At 86.9% of total volumes in August, motorcycle sales actually contracted marginally on a yearly basis. Scooters, meanwhile, now command close to 13% of the mix and are growing at a pace the motorcycle lineup simply isn't matching - a trend that has been building through the year rather than a one-off spike.

Vida electric scooters cross 25,000 units

The scooter surge has a clear driver: Vida. Hero's electric sub-brand dispatched 25,558 units in August, forming a large chunk of the overall scooter tally, while retail registrations on VAHAN for the electric range grew by 38% over last year. The petrol-powered lineup wasn't left behind either - Hero's conventional domestic business logged 5,16,747 units, with retail registrations up 18% annually. The portfolio also got a fresh addition during the month with the launch of the Vida VX2 Go, a lower-cost variant fitted with a smaller fixed battery pack, aimed at widening the brand's entry-level appeal.

Domestic demand firms up, exports stay under pressure

Hero's home-market performance held up comfortably in August, with domestic dispatches rising both year-on-year and over the previous month. Overseas shipments told a different story, falling by close to a quarter compared to last year and continuing their slide from July. That said, Hero kept up its export push on the product front, rolling out the Xpulse 200 4V and 4V Pro in Bangladesh - a sign the company is still betting on international markets even as near-term volumes soften.

FY27 year-to-date - five months in

Zoomed out to the financial year so far, the trend seen in August is really a five-month pattern. Hero has dispatched close to 27.8 lakh two-wheelers between April and August 2026, a 17% jump over the same stretch last year. Scooters have nearly doubled, growing 71% year-on-year, while motorcycles have grown at a steadier low-double-digit clip. Both domestic and export channels are in positive territory for the year, even though exports dipped specifically in the August month.

Verdict

August 2026 wasn't a blockbuster month for Hero MotoCorp in headline terms, but it was a telling one. The company's growth engine is visibly shifting - scooters, and Vida in particular, are no longer a side story but a genuine second pillar propping up volumes as motorcycle demand plateaus. With the festive season approaching and the Vida range expanding further down the price ladder, Hero looks reasonably placed to sustain its FY27 momentum, provided exports find their footing again in the months ahead.
