New Skoda Slavia Production Starts Ahead of the Festive Season; Check Details
Skoda has started production of the updated Slavia sedan in India, and the timing is deliberate. The first units are rolling out of the Chakan plant near Pune just as the festive season begins, when showroom traffic and new car purchases are at their yearly peak. SAVWIPL announced the start of production on 28 September 2026.
The Slavia has earned this update, with nearly 80,000 units sold and around 30 per cent share of its segment, according to Skoda. The updated sedan brings a new eight-speed automatic for the 1.0-litre TSI engine, a rear seat massage function, a 360-degree camera, and a new AI-assisted infotainment system. Prices and the launch date haven't been announced yet, but here is everything confirmed so far.
Why the Timing Matters

Festive months are when car showrooms in India see their heaviest footfall, and carmakers usually try to have fresh stock and new models ready by then. Skoda's decision to begin Slavia production now looks aimed at exactly that window. The company has not yet shared a launch date or prices, so buyers will have to wait for those details.
What's New On the Slavia

Skoda has confirmed several changes for the updated sedan:
- New gearbox: An eight-speed torque converter automatic, paired with the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine.
- Rear Seat Massage: Skoda calls this a first in the segment. It is meant to add comfort for rear passengers on longer drives.
- 360-degree Area View camera: Helps with parking and tight manoeuvres.
- New infotainment: Includes an AI Companion powered by Google Cloud.
The sedan also keeps its 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, according to the company.
The Sales Record Behind it

Slavia has done well for Skoda in India. Nearly 80,000 units have been sold since it went on sale, and the company puts its share of its segment at around 30 per cent. Skoda says this record is why the car is getting a meaningful update.
What Skoda's Leadership Said
Skoda Auto's production chief, Andreas Dick, described India as an increasingly important part of the brand's global manufacturing network. SAVWIPL Managing Director and CEO Piyush Arora said the new model builds on Slavia's existing strengths in design, driving feel, and safety, with added technology and comfort. Brand Director Ashish Gupta pointed to Skoda's long history with sedans, which he said stretches back more than 90 years, and said the Slavia continues it in India.
India's Role in Skoda's Plans
SAVWIPL runs two plants in India with a combined capacity of 315,000 units a year. It passed the 2 million mark for locally built vehicles in 2025 and has shipped more than 725,000 vehicles to over 40 countries. The company's locally built lineup (Kylaq, Kushaq, Slavia, Taigun, and Virtus) has together crossed 600,000 units. Its Technology Centre Pune supports localisation and product development for both India and export markets.
What We Still Don't Know
