Tata Hexa to Get a New XMA 4X4 Variant Soon - Spied on Test

Tata Motors showcased the Hexa BS6 Safari edition at the 2020 Auto Expo and since then, we haven't heard anything about the Hexa. Just recently, a Tata Hexa spied on test with XMA and 4X4 badge. Tata Motors used to offer the 4X4 in top trims only but this new test mule suggests that now we will get XMA 4X4 as well. It is worth mentioning that Tata never offered the Hexa with 4X4 AT trim as 4X4 was only available with 6-speed manual gearbox.

The spied Tata Hexa was running on steel wheels which reinforces the presence of XMA badge. The spied car also has the 4X4 badging on the front fenders. The XM is the second base variant of the Tata Hexa and having 4X4 AT in XMA at competitive pricing would be a great deal. Tata Motors will plonk the 2.2-litre diesel engine in the Hexa will produce around 154 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. Unlike the older version, the BS6 model is expected to come in a single 400 Nm tune mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AT. Before BS6, Tata used to offer Varicor 320 mated to a 5-speed manual which is not expected to be offered this time.

Having the XM 4X4 AT in the arsenal will help Tata to position the Hexa below the Tata Gravitas and Harrier. The Hexa is based on the ladder frame chassis unlike the monocoque on the Harrier. Moreover, the Hexa comes with either rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive layout whereas both the Harrier and Gravitas come with front-wheel-drive only. Both these points go in favour of the Hexa and suit the SUV tag better.

As the car has been spied testing, we expect the launch of the Hexa to happen this festive season. As per the spy shot, Tata has not changed anything on the car externally. The features list and equipment on the Hexa will remain more or less the same. However, we may see the heavily equipped and off-road spec Safari edition which was first shown at the 2020 Auto Expo.
