Tata Motors Ford Sanand Plant Acquisition Enters Final Stage: Details

• Tata Motors to complete the acquisition of Ford's Sanand Plant on 10th January.
• With this, the Indian carmaker will get an additional production capacity of 3,00,000 units per year.
• The deal was closed for an amount Rs. 725.7 crore in August 2022.

Tata Motors subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML) and Ford India Private Limited (FIPL) signed a Unit Transfer Agreement (UTA) in August 2022 for the acquisition of Ford's Sanand, Gujrat-based manufacturing facility. The deal was closed for Rs. 725.7 crore (excluding taxes) and it included the entire land & buildings, the vehicle manufacturing plant along with machinery and equipment situated therein and the transfer of all eligible employees of vehicle manufacturing operations at Sanand. In the most recent development, the acquisition is in its final stage and will be completed on 10th January 2023.

Tata Motors Ford Sanand Plant Acquisition: Details

As the company's electric vehicle division has acquired Ford's manufacturing facility, it is likely that Tata Motors will manufacture its EVs in this plant. Along with this, Ford will continue to utilize its powertrain manufacturing facility by leasing back the land and buildings of the powertrain plant from TPEML on mutually agreed terms. Moreover, Tata Motors also agreed to offer employment to the eligible employees of Ford's powertrain manufacturing plant in case the American brand decides to close its operations at any stage.

As mentioned earlier that the acquisition process will be completed on 10th January 2023. So this newly acquired plant will increase the brand's manufacturing facility by 3,00,000 units per annum, which is further expandable to 4,20,000 units yearly. According to Tata Motors, its existing manufacturing capacity was nearing the point of saturation and this new acquisition is a win-win for all stakeholders. The brand has been registering good growth in the passenger vehicle segment over the course of the last few years and is expecting to maintain the momentum with its strong product strategy, as stated by the Indian carmaker.
