Tata Tiago Petrol AMT Ownership Review

The Tiago is one of those cars, which can be credited for Tata Motor's turnaround. It is not only affordable but also comes with automatic gearbox options. With that being said, the Tiago received a comprehensive facelift earlier this year. However, if you are in the market for a used car do read our comprehensive Tata Tiago ownership review. It might help you with your next car purchase.

Before we start, here are some basic details of the car and the owner
Owner name - Julian Singh
Variant - XTA
Model Year - 2018
Location - New Delhi
Odometer reading - 21000+ Km

Pros of the Tata Tiago

  • The car feels sturdy and solidly put together. The good looks are a cherry on the cake.
  • The brakes are responsive and have a good bite to them
  • Engine performance is good. Becomes even better in Sport mode
  • Has been easy to maintain so far
  • The rear seat is fairly comfortable. The owner has been on multiple long trips and the seat has been better than expected.
  • Cubby holes and small storage spaces are plenty in the car which make it very practical. Not to mention, the boot is one of the biggest at that price point.
  • The Harman sound system is one of the best and it shows.

Cons of the Tiago

  • Plastic quality is not that great. Interior trims can fall off easily
  • ABS was optional when the owner got the car. It should've been standard.
  • NVH levels are not really that great. It is possible to hear even the slightest of noises in the cabin.
  • The AMT gearbox has a lag sometimes when the reverse gear is engaged which can be unnerving at times.

The owner also reports that the car has been very reliable. In his 1.5 years and 21000 km of driving this car, he's never been let down. Additionally, he has told us that the service costs have been quite low. The car has been very smooth and is quite fun to drive in the sport mode.

The owner also reports to us that with his style of driving, the car returns him 14-15 km to the litre within the city. Additionally, when he goes out on the highway, the car does return him in excess of 20 km to the litre. So all in all, not only the maintenance costs but also the fuel costs are low.

The rear seats are better than expected and are quite comfortable. It is fairly easy to do long journeys in the back seat. The boot is fairly big. In fact, it is one of the bigger boots at this price point. The numerous cubby holes do give it an added bit of practicality.

Does the owner recommend the car to others?
Yes, the owner does recommend this car to all those buyers who are on a tight budget but want something that is practical, spacious, safe, reliable, efficient and fun to drive as well.

While the Tiago does have its share of quality issues, however, it is still one of the more practical choices out there. Many owners have reported positive ownership experiences and appreciated the Tiago for its practicality, space, reliability and safety.
