We have tested 0-60 / 0-100 / 0-120 kmph timing of Petrol MT/CVT and also Diesel MT. The variant we had for the Test Drive was the top-spec ZX Trim which comes loaded with all the bells and whistles. You can watch the video of the acceleration test by clicking on the embedded video above. Please do note that this high-speed test was conducted on a closed section of road and we don't promote high-speed runs on public roads. Also, the speeds are speedometer indicated and the figures can slightly alter depending on your driving style and external factors.

Now, coming to the performance figures, as you can see in the video, first of all, we tested the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine mated to the 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine churns out 121 PS of power at 6600 RPM and 145 Nm of torque at 4300 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 6-speed manual as well as a 7-step CVT gearbox. In our first speed test run, the car equipped with the manual transmission sprinted from 0-60 kmph in just 4.1 seconds, 0-100 kmph in 10.4 seconds while 0-120 kmph was covered in 15.2 seconds. We did a second run too and this time the figures slightly improved. In our second run, 60 kmph mark came in 4.2 seconds, it did 0-100 kmph in 10.1 seconds while the 0-120 kmph was done in just 14.9 seconds. Yes, this i-VTEC motor is pretty quick.

Now, coming to the CVT variant. So, the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol motor gets a 7-step CVT too. Firstly, we conducted the speed run in 'D' which is Drive Mode. In Drive mode, it sprinted from 0-60 kmph in 5.6 seconds, 0-100 kmph in 11.4 seconds while the 120 kmph mark came in 16.2 seconds. Then we shifted the mode from 'D' to 'S' which is the Sport Mode. In Sport mode, the figures slightly improved and it felt a bit punchier compared to the Drive mode. The CVT-equipped Petrol City also gets paddle-shifters but we didn't use it and completely relied on the machine itself. In Sport mode, the City paired with CVT did 0-60 kmph in 5.5 seconds, 0-100 kmph in 11.3 seconds and 0-120 kmph in 15.9 seconds.

Talking about the diesel engine of the new City, so it gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 100 PS of power at 3600 RPM and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox only. The Diesel City coupled with the Manual Transmission sprinted from 0-60 kmph in 5.2 seconds, 0-100 kmph in 11.4 seconds while 0-120 kmph took 16.8 seconds. So, if you compare the performance figures of all three engines/gearbox, the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol motor paired with the 6-speed manual transmission is the fastest of the lot. Now, let's talk about ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency too. The City Petrol MT delivers a mileage of 17.8 kmpl, Petrol CVT delivers 18.4 kmpl while the Diesel MT is rated at 24.1 kmpl.
