2020 MG Gloster BS6 First Look Review - The True Flagship SUV!

MG Motor India has today finally launched its flagship SUV in the country. The MG Gloster full-size SUV is the company's flagship SUV in its India line-up. The Gloster was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year. It is MG's fourth offering in the Indian market after the Hector, ZS EV and the Hector Plus. Today, the company has launched the Gloster at an introductory starting price of Rs. 28.98 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. So, here we have for you the First Look Review of the new 2020 MG Gloster BS6.

2020 MG Gloster BS6: Looks and Colour Options

The MG Gloster is a behemoth. The Gloster is an enormous SUV with sheer dimensions and a great road presence. Talking about its looks, so the MG Gloster looks like a traditional SUV. It gets an all-LED headlamp with LED DRLs and LED foglamps. The SUV has a huge imposing grille with brushed aluminium inserts. It looks gigantic from the side, runs on 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and also gets roof rails. At the rear, it gets dummy quad-exhaust tips (actually there are two exhausts), a roof-mounted spoiler and multiple badges all around. The Gloster is available in four different colour shades - Agate Red, Metal Black, Metal Ash and Warm White.

2020 MG Gloster BS6: Engine and Transmission

The new MG Gloster is powered by two BS6-compliant diesel engines. One is a 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel engine while the other is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel motor. The lower-spec Super and Smart variants get the former that develops 163 PS of power at 4000 RPM and 375 Nm of peak torque between 1500-2400 RPM. On the other hand, the top-spec Sharp and Savvy variants get the latter that churns out a massive 218 PS of power at 4000 RPM and 480 Nm of peak torque between 1500-2400 RPM. Both these oil-burners are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. However, the single-turbo diesel engine gets 2WD system (rear-wheel drive) but the twin-turbo motor gets an on-demand Intelligent 4-wheel drive system.

2020 MG Gloster BS6: Interior and Features

The MG Gloster is a very feature-loaded and a tech-laden SUV. It is loaded with features up to the gills. The Gloster gets a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It also gets MG's i-Smart 2.0 connectivity with over 70 connected car features. Some other features of this full-size SUV include three-zone climate control, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, PM 2.5 filter, premium leatherette upholstery, an 8.0-inch multi-information display, seven driving modes (including four terrain modes - Rock, Sand, Mud and Snow), etc.

Talking about safety features, the Gloster gets ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, all-wheel disc brakes, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control System, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, front and rear parking sensors with a 360-degree parking camera, a blind-spot detection unit, front and rear fog lamps, ISOFIX child seat anchors, heated ORVMs, and many more. The top of the line Savvy variant also gets ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and level-1 autonomous driving capabilities with features like automatic park assist, adaptive cruise control, etc.

Now, talking about the price, so the new 2020 MG Gloster BS6 is priced between Rs. 28.98 lakhs - Rs. 35.38 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. This is an introductory price for the first 2000 customers / valid up to 31st October 2020 only (whichever is earlier). The bookings for the Gloster are already open. It rivals against the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4, Ford Endeavour, etc. Finally, talking about the verdict, so if you are out in the market and looking for a tech-laden & feature-loaded full-size SUV with a very powerful diesel engine, great off-road capabilities and loads of space, then you should surely consider buying the new MG Gloster.
