Toyota Fortuner is a very popular full-size 4x4 SUV in the Indian market. The Fortuner was first launched in India in the year 2009 and in just no time, it became synonymous with the rich and the powerful. The second-gen Fortuner was launched in India in the year 2016 and it became even more popular among the Indians. However, its been four years and the Fortuner has not received any significant update yet. But, soon things are gonna change. A few months ago, Toyota unveiled the new Fortuner Facelift in Thailand and now it's coming to our shores. The bookings for the new upcoming 2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift BS6 are now open in India.
First of all, talking about the changes in the new facelifted model, so it gets several cosmetic enhancements, an upgraded diesel powertrain and some new features. At the front, one can see that it gets revised fascia with a new sharp-looking profile. The bumpers of the SUV have been revised and it gets a new blacked-out large mesh-pattern grille. The headlights are also new. It gets sharp all-LED headlights with projector set-up and new integrated LED DRLs. The fog lamp assembly has also been revised and it gets horizontal LED strips which will double up as turn indicators. The side profile of the SUV is almost identical as before but it gets new 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, it gets a revised bumper and slimmer LED taillights.
Coming to the interior, it will not get many changes, the dashboard layout will remain the same as before but it will sport some new features. It will get a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The new facelifted Fortuner might also feature a 360-degree parking camera, ambient lighting, wireless charger and nine-speaker JBL audio system, etc. Talking about the powertrain options, it will get a BS6-compliant 2.7-litre petrol engine that will churn out 166 PS of maximum power and 245 Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
However, the oil-burner of the SUV might get a significant upgrade. It will be powered by a BS6-compliant 2.8-litre diesel engine that might churn out 204 PS of power and a whopping 500 Nm of torque. That means 27 PS and 50 Nm more than the current diesel Fortuner. The transmission options will remain the same. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Now, talking about the launch timeline and booking details, the bookings for the upcoming 2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift BS6 are now unofficially open in India at select Toyota dealerships across the country. According to a recent media report, the current Fortuner's production has been now stopped in India.
The new Fortuner Facelift is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2021. Currently, the BS6-compliant Toyota Fortuner is priced between Rs. 28.66 lakhs - Rs. 34.43 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. The upcoming facelifted model might be priced a bit more premium compared to the current model. It will rival against the Ford Endeavour, MG Gloster and Mahindra Alturas G4.
