    Mahindra XUV7X0 - Rivals

    Tata Safari

One of the most legendary nameplates recently received the much-awaited turbo-petrol engine called the 1.5L Hyperion, making this FWD monocoque chassis SUV even more versatile. Now, people in Delhi NCR who always wanted to buy the Tata Safari but couldn't because of its only diesel powertrain must be on cloud nine. Along with a new engine, Tata has upgraded the car with more features and a large 14-inch infotainment screen that we saw in the Tata Harrier EV too. In 2026, it will be exciting to see which of these would sell the most, as now the game has become even more interesting.

    MG Hector and Hector Plus

Recently, MG India launched the facelifted Hector, bringing changes only to its appearance, with a more standout chrome-finished grille. On sale since 2019, it has seen its glory days, but has lately been ignored as rivals have upgraded to level 11, leaving it struggling to compete. The facelift, however, gives it a fresh new look. Still, it remains a worthy rival with its spacious cabin, popular features, 5-, 6-, and 7-seater Hector Plus options, and a choice of two potent engines.

    Tata Harrier

    Tata Harrier

As the upcoming Mahindra XUV7X0 will be available in 5-seater and 7-seater options, the Harrier also makes it to the list of its rivals. Like its seven-seater counterpart, a petrol engine has entered this SUV too. For those who don't know, this turbo-petrol engine debuted with the Tata Sierra, but for the Harrier and Safari, Tata has tuned it to produce more power.

The figures are 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. From a features point of view, it is truly a benchmark setter, with ADAS Level 2, a 14-inch infotainment system, an electronic rear-view mirror with a recording function, a front camera with a washer, and a plethora of other options.

    Mahindra Scorpio N

Without a doubt, the biggest rival of the XUV7X0 is going to be this superstar vehicle, the Scorpio N. This SUV has changed the course for the Mahindra brand, as in 2025, the brand has reached the second position in terms of sales, leaving behind Hyundai and Tata, and the biggest contribution to reaching this milestone is done by the Scorpio N.

So, it will be interesting to see where people would head when they enter the Mahindra showroom, as more likely, their prices would be somewhere similar, especially the starting amount. That said, they are mechanically poles apart, with one being a monocoque chassis build with FWD and the other a ladder frame with an RWD setup.

    Verdict

Overall, 2026 is set to be a defining year for premium 5- and 7-seater SUVs. With the XUV7X0 arriving in both seating layouts, competition among the Safari, Harrier, Hector, and the ever-strong Scorpio N has intensified. Tata's new 1.5L Hyperion petrol has widened the appeal of its SUVs, MG's facelift keeps the Hector in the game, and Mahindra's Scorpio N remains a sales powerhouse. Each model now brings clear strengths - features, powertrains, or rugged capability - and the final choice will depend on what customers value most in this increasingly competitive segment.
