5-door Mahindra Thar Launch in Jan'23? Or Is It RWD Thar With 1.5 Diesel?

As per our anticipations, Mahindra might be readying to spoil Maruti's party. How? Well, Maruti Jimny 5-Door is going to launch on 11 Jan'23 in India. Thar 5-Door Launching in Jan'2023?

As we know, Mahindra is not participating in the upcoming India Auto Expo. Meanwhile, the Jimny 5-Door is being readied to launch at the event. However, Mahindra might debut the Thar 5-Door on the same day as Jimny's launch in India. This can happen simply for one reason - rivalry. Both of the upcoming SUVs are highly anticipated in India. With such a rivalry even before the debut; Mahindra has good scope to beat Jimny's popularity. What can be a better event to do this than the launch of Jimny? Right? Well, this is still anticipation but the word of mouth about the Thar 5-Door launch has become a hot topic in Mahindra showrooms & workshops.

Speaking of the Thar 5-Door is based on the current 3-door model. However, its chassis will be tweaked for additional length. By the looks of the test, mules spied as for now; it seems the 5-door model will look more or less the same as the 3-door. Meanwhile, engine & specs are also anticipated to remain the same. The current Thar uses a mix of petrol & diesel powertrain options. Additionally, it is also offered with manual & automatic gearbox options. We suspect that these specs will remain unchanged on the 5-door variant.

However, for making it look different; 5-door Thar will get some distinctive design elements. These might include the use of a new alloy wheel design and maybe new interior upholstery. Again, nothing can be confirmed as of now. What we can claim surely is that its pricing will definitely be more than the 3-door model. We suspect that it will be priced at least Rs 1-2 lakh more than the 3-door model.

Verdict

The upcoming Indian Auto Expo is going to be a battleground for SUVs. However, the absence of Mahindra will surely leave a gap. Meanwhile, Maruti is eyeing on this gap to be filled by its Jimny. But, the stories with a twist gain the most viewers. This means that if Thar 5-Door is introduced on the day of Jimny's launch; it will be the greatest SUV battle day for the Indian market.
