Bharat NCAP Sticker With QR Code Details

Bharat NCAP will distribute QR code stickers to automobile manufacturers whose vehicles have passed crash testing as part of the safety program. These stickers will display the manufacturer's name, vehicle or model name, testing date, and safety star ratings for both adults and children. Scanning the sticker will provide detailed information about the vehicle's safety features. Currently, Tata Motors models have undergone crash tests and received 5-star ratings from Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant safety include the Tata Safari, Harrier, Nexon EV, and Punch EV.

Bharat NCAP Testing Rules

Bharat NCAP will analyse vehicle safety ratings with a comprehensive assessment across three key areas: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, and the Fitment of Safety Features. Vehicles will undergo a series of rigorous tests, including front impact, side impact, and side pole impact, to determine their safety credentials. The front impact test will be conducted at 64 km/h, aligning with Global NCAP standards. Meanwhile, the side pole impact test will be administered at 29 km/h, but only for vehicles that score 3 stars or above.

To achieve a 3-star rating or higher, vehicles must have standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and front seat belt reminders. The eligibility criteria for testing include a passenger capacity of up to 8 people, a gross weight of less than 3.5 tonnes, and the requirement to be either manufactured in India or imported for sale. Bharat NCAP will also assess CNG and electric vehicles.

Here's how the crash test rating process unfolds:

Here's how the crash test rating process unfolds:

  • The automaker nominates a vehicle for crash testing.
  • BNCAP representatives visit the manufacturers stockyard to select a random base variant.
  • The vehicle is then transported to Bharat NCAPs testing facility.
  • The crash tests are conducted in the presence of both the automaker's representatives and Bharat NCAP officials.
  • Test results are compiled and shared with the automaker.
  • Upon approval from Bharat NCAP officials, the ratings are published, and a certificate is issued by the Central Institute of Road Transport.

Star ratings are assigned based on scores in the following categories:
