Pros & Cons of Mahindra Bolero Neo
Should I buy the Bolero Neo?
The Mahindra Bolero Neo is a great SUV with a good road presence, decent comfort, and a frugal diesel engine. It has good comfort on offer and the third row is best suited for kids. Bolero Neo provides a more value-for-money option over the regular Bolero.
- The design of the Bolero Neo is identical to its earlier sibling TUV 300. It has a strong front face with six chrome slats. The headlights get connected with a chrome strip, giving it a premium appeal. The halogen headlights provide a decent throw and could have been improved.
- Coming to the side, it has 15” alloy wheels, with massive ground clearance. This stance makes it a true SUV unlike the pseudo SUVs present in the market. It gets a side footstep for easy in-rest and eg-rest. The black body cladding runs all around the vehicle, providing it with an SUV macho design pattern.
- At the rear, it has the spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. The tailgate opens sideways and the boot comes with jump seat configurations that are best suited for kids. Apart from that it can accommodate a decent amount of luggage when no one is sitting on those seats.
- The design is simple with halogen units used all around. It is under 4m in length which results in a little less room inside the cabin.
- As we step inside the cabin of the Bolero Neo, it offers a tough and robust feeling with hard plastics all around. The dual-tone dashboard offers an aesthetic feeling.
- The feature list on the Bolero Neo is very basic. It has manual control for the AC, and a 7” touchscreen infotainment screen. This screen is crisp in display but the touch response could have been better. It comes with basic features like USB, and Bluetooth and misses on the current day technology like Android Auto and Apple Carplay.
- The cabin quality is decent with hard plastics all around. There is ample storage space for your bottle and cup holders and the power window controls are in the center. The front seats offer good comfort and the independent armrest increases the comfort level.
- The light color fabric upholstery makes the cabin comfortable and has an airy feeling.
- The Bolero Neo comes equipped with a mHAWK100 engine on offer mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine produces 100 BHP with 260 Nm of peak torque. This engine is smooth in power delivery but feels a bit underpowered compared to the size of the vehicle.
- Considering the SUV proportions of the Bolero Neo, it has a great fuel economy. On driving it sedately, it will return about 16-17 km/L. On highways, it has a top speed of a maximum of 130-140 km/h and has a lot of eminent body roll and vertical movement.
- The 5-speed gearbox is decent in shifts. The clutch is normal and in traffic jams, it can be a pain.
- The Bolero Neo offers great comfort on the front seats. The seats are wide enough and the low bonnet line gives a commanding view.
- The cabin in the middle row offers decent space. The floor is almost flat and the cabin is wide enough for 3 passengers. The seats offer good cushioning and there is decent knee room and leg room on offer.
- The suspension is tuned on the softer side to provide a premium level of comfort in the second and third rows. It absorbs bad roads and potholes very well. On expansion joints, there is some vertical movement that filters inside the cabin, and the body roll is very prominent around the curves.
- The steering wheel is the same unit as THAR. The instrument cluster is also the same unit and it is an analog unit with a digital TFT display in the center.
