The Mahindra BE Rall-E, the specific off-road version of the BE 6, has been spied testing in the scorching heat of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. This is not the first time this EV has been spotted, but looking at these photos, we assume Mahindra is putting the vehicle through its paces in desert conditions to identify areas that need improvement. Mahindra BE Rall E

Mahindra first showcased this off-road specific version in the September of 2023, and even from a distance it looked like a serious off-roader, with rally ready bumpers, with a round headlight, most likely to be of halogen, and high cladding that sets the tone right. Moreover, a very specific detail of this EV was - steel wheels, painted in carbon black. Now, comapring these details to the one we spotted in Jaisalmer, its pretty much the same, even under the protective covers. Here to the Rall E is seen in steel wheels and that too are camouflaged.

Our photos primarily focus on the rear-right quarter of the car, and from this angle, the most noticeable distinction is the large roof rack, which is completely covered. Additionally, the rear bumper appears to have a sharper design, likely intended to improve the departure angle and enhance its off-road capabilities.

As for the battery, it is expected to carry either the 59 kWh or 79 kWh pack, similar to other BE models. However, since this is an off-road variant, Mahindra might equip it with a 4WD setup. It's not a major challenge to make EVs all-wheel-drive, as it simply requires placing dual motors - one at each axle - to power all four wheels, much like what we've seen with the upcoming Tata Harrier EV. Lastly, the 59 kWh battery produces 231 PS and 380 Nm of torque, while the 79 kWh version delivers 285 PS and 380 Nm of torque. The only catch here is that this off-road-focused variant is likely to be heavier, which means it won't offer a range of over 500 km like the standard model.

Verdict
In September 2023, when this model was showcased for the first time, it was announced at the event that it would launch in October 2025. That month is now just around the corner, and both the BE 6 and XUV 9e have been well received by Indian customers. Moreover, in just 70 days, their cumulative sales crossed the 10,000-unit mark. Clearly, they have laid the foundation for the future of Mahindra electric cars. Upon launch, the Rall-E will directly compete with the Tata Harrier EV and is expected to start at around Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom). Let's see when Mahindra makes any official announcements.
