Toyota Mirai

Toyota is the world leader when it comes to hydrogen fuel cell tech. Toyota Mirai is considered one of the first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the world. First showcased in 2014, Mirai is a sedan body type vehicle capable of giving a range of around 650 km. Currently, in its 2nd generation, Mirai gets 3 tanks with a total hydrogen storing capacity of 141 litres. Unlike EVs, Mirai can be fully refuelled in under 5 mins. The rear-wheel drive sedan is powered by a 185PS electric motor with 300nm of torque output. It is also a Euro N-CAP 5-star rated vehicle. Toyota has already been testing the Mirai in India. Last year Toyota India signed an MoU with the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for the Mirai pilot project. The aim of the project was to test and study the viability of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in India.

Hyundai Nexo

Launched in 2018, Hyundai Nexo is the flagship eco car of Hyundai. It is already available in USA, UK & South Korea. The front-wheel drive SUV has 3 hydrogen storage tanks with a total capacity of 156 litres and is powered by a 163PS electric motor with 400NM torque output. This gives the NEXO a range of around 610 km. The NEXO also gets Hyundai's advanced level 2 ADAS tech consisting of features like lane follow assist, highway driving assist and remote parking assist. The Nexo can autonomously park and retrieve itself at the command of the driver.

MG Maxus Euniq 7

According to SAIC, the MPV is capable of giving a range of around 600km on a full tank of hydrogen. Maxus Euniq 7 already has a presence in some international markets and MG motors could use it to assess the reaction and interest of Indians towards the hydrogen fuel cell technology.
