Hyundai Creta Electric Assured Buyback Explained

Hyundai Creta Electric now comes with an Assured Buyback Program, offering customers 60% assured buyback value on the SUV. The move is aimed at tackling one of the biggest roadblocks in India's EV adoption story: resale value uncertainty. As India's EV market matures, long-term ownership value has become just as important to buyers as range and charging speed. Hyundai says its Assured Buyback Program has been specifically designed to plug this gap, giving customers financial certainty they've often lacked when going electric.

Hyundai Creta Electric

Built on the same platform as the standard Creta, the Creta Electric pairs familiar SUV proportions with an electric powertrain. It comes with two battery options, a 42 kWh unit good for an ARAI-certified range of 420 km, and a 51.4 kWh long-range pack rated at 510 km. DC fast charging takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 39 minutes. The SUV also gets Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality both inside and outside the cabin, a digital key, Hyundai's SmartSense Level 2 ADAS suite, and a side foot step. The long-range variant is capable of a 0-100 kmph sprint in 7.9 seconds.

To make this more accessible, Hyundai also sales the Creta Electric with BaaS, which drops the starting the price to Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) with Battery EMI starts at Rs 3.9 per km. This lets buyers cut down on upfront costs while paying for battery usage based on how much they actually drive.

Speaking on the launch, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, HMIL, said that the next phase of EV growth in the country will be driven as much by customer trust as by technology. He added that the Creta Electric has been engineered to deliver a strong ownership experience, backed by Hyundai's global EV know-how and the brand equity of the Creta nameplate. Garg noted that the buyback program, alongside the company's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, expanding charging network, and future EV lineup, forms part of a broader push to build one of India's most complete EV ecosystems.

How This Will Actually Work?

Say a customer buys the Creta Electric with BaaS at Rs 10.99 lakh, paying only for the vehicle upfront while the battery is financed separately at Rs 3.9 per km. For someone driving 1,500 km a month, that works out to roughly Rs 5,850 as battery EMI, so they pay based on actual usage rather than a fixed upfront cost.

Now add the Assured Buyback Program to this. After a few years of ownership, if the customer sells the car back to Hyundai, they're guaranteed 60% of its value, regardless of how EV resale prices are trending at the time. This removes a lot of the uncertainty around battery degradation and depreciation that usually makes EV buyers nervous.

Put together, BaaS lowers the cost of getting in, and the buyback program lowers the risk of getting out, which is really the two biggest hesitations Hyundai seems to be targeting with this move.
