JSW Motors Jetour T2-Based SUV Spied Testing In India

JSW Motors is gearing up for its first passenger car launch, and a heavily camouflaged prototype has now been caught on camera. The upcoming SUV borrows its underpinnings from the Jetour T2 and is set to arrive with plug-in hybrid power. Production will take place at JSW's plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. This comes months after JSW first teased the SUV in a newspaper advertisement, confirming its plans to enter the passenger vehicle space.

Design: What The Spy Shots Reveal

The test mule closely mirrors the T2 sold overseas. In fact, the tail-lights, roof rails and wheels all look familiar. Furthermore, a design patent filed in India earlier this year backs this up. Overall, it suggests the JSW SUV will carry over most of the T2's design, with JSW's own badging replacing the Jetour name.

However, the cabin has not been spotted yet, so the feature list remains unconfirmed. For reference, the global-spec T2 comes with a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 540-degree camera system, Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, a Sony sound system, ambient lighting, wireless charging and a powered tailgate. That said, Indian-spec equipment could differ.

Powertrain: Plug-In Hybrid Setup Expected

The SUV is likely to use the same setup as the Jetour T2 i-DM. Specifically, this includes a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 26.7kWh battery and two electric motors. One motor drives the front wheels, while the second sits within the gearbox and assists engine starts and gear shifts.

As a result, combined output on the international T2 stands at 381hp and 610Nm, sent through a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Meanwhile, NEDC-rated electric-only range is 139km, with a brand-claimed combined range beyond 1,000km. So far, though, JSW has not confirmed figures for the India-spec car.

Expected Price And Rivals

Based on this, we expect pricing to fall between Rs 38 lakh and Rs 40 lakh, ex-showroom. At that level, its closest rival today is the recently launched MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV, priced at Rs 25.70 lakh. It is India's first mass-market car with a PHEV setup, combining a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle engine with a 20.5kWh battery pack for a combined range of 1,100km. The Hector Tomahawk is a 7-seater, though, so it isn't a like-for-like match. Even so, it remains the nearest comparison for the T2-based SUV until more direct rivals arrive.

Launch Timeline

Initially, reports pointed to a September launch. So far, however, JSW Motors has made no official announcement. More recently, though, reports suggest the brand's first passenger vehicle could arrive only in January 2027.
