KIA Carens Clavis - Engine & Transmission

The Clavis offers the same engine options as the Carens. It includes a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 113 bhp and 144 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The second engine option is a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine that delivers 158 bhp and 253 Nm of peak torque. This engine features a new 6-speed manual transmission option, as well as the existing 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT options. Lastly, there is a 1.5-liter diesel engine that also produces 113 bhp, but generates 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Verdict
The Kia Carens Clavis is a significant upgrade over the regular Carens. It offers a better-looking exterior and a more feature-loaded interior, making it feel more premium. The brand has priced the MPV well, and the variant lineup is solid. However, Kia could have offered the diesel automatic in more variants to give customers greater flexibility. The Clavis will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki XL6, certain variants of the Hyundai Alcazar, and the MG Hector Plus.
