Kia Seltos Now Gets Equipped With 6 Airbags As Standard; Sonet To Follow The Lead Too?

Just a few months ago, Kia updated the safety equipment on the MY2022 Seltos and now they've again rejigged the features list. Kia has now equipped the Seltos with six airbags as standard and we believe that Sonet, the compact SUV will follow the lead too.

Until now, the six airbags were seen only in the top-spec variant of the Seltos. We believe this has much to do with the ongoing Hi-Tech Safety Package advertorials for the Carens as it received 3 stars only. We've also covered an article sharing our opinion on why Hi-Tech Safety does not matter and it is a strong bodyshell that matters the most.

Kia Seltos scored 3-star in the Global NCAP crash rating test which is not expected from a car of this size. Other carmakers offering cars at a lower price are impressing the Indian buyers with a Global NCAP rating of 5 stars while Kia is luring the buyers with features only.

Kia Seltos Powertrain

Under the hood, Seltos gets three engine options - 1.5L non-turbo petrol, 1.4L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel. Both the non-turbo petrol and diesel mill belts out 113 bhp of power on tap while the peak torque sticks to 144 Nm and 250 Nm, respectively.

The 1.4L turbo petrol motor generates 138 bhp of power with a maximum torque of 242 Nm. All three engine options get paired to a 6-speed manual transmission while for the automatic, the 1.5L petrol gets IVT, oil burner gets 6-speed auto and 1.4L turbo petrol gets equipped with a 7-speed DCT.

Following the updated safety equipment list on the Seltos, we also expect the South Korean carmaker to follow the same with their compact SUV, Sonet too in the segment. If that is done then Kia Sonet will be the only compact SUV in the segment to offer 6 airbags as standard.
