KTM RC 160 And Duke 160 Same Day Launch Likely

KTM is gearing up to make a big splash in the entry-level performance motorcycle market with the launch of two all-new models, the fully-faired RC 160 and the naked Duke 160, both set to arrive later this month. Initially thought to be a 2026 debut, KTM has accelerated its plans to capitalise on the upcoming festive season. The RC 160, in particular, is a landmark model as it's being developed specifically for India, with Bajaj Auto playing a major role in its engineering. This makes it one of the first KTMs designed with significant India-led development input.

The RC 160 will squarely aim at the Yamaha R15 V4, a bike that has dominated the sporty 150-160cc segment for over a decade. While KTM already offers the RC 200 and RC 390 in India, there has been a gap at the lower end of the faired lineup since the RC 125 was discontinued. The RC 160 will feature aggressive styling inspired by the RC 200 and RC 390, complete with a full fairing and sharp bodywork, although many expected it to adopt the 2026 RC 390's sleeker design.

Engine Details

Both the RC 160 and Duke 160 will use a 160cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, essentially a downsized version of the RC 200's motor, expected to produce around 20 hp and 15 Nm of torque. A 6-speed gearbox with a standard quickshifter is likely, ensuring the performance-focused DNA remains intact. Hardware like the trellis frame, suspension setup, and braking components is expected to be carried over from the RC 200, which should translate into class-leading handling.

The RC 160 will be KTM's most affordable fully-faired motorcycle in India, positioned to attract younger buyers stepping into the KTM ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Duke 160 will serve as the naked streetfighter counterpart, sharing the same engine and cycle parts but with a more upright, aggressive street stance.

Verdict

With the RC 160 and Duke 160, KTM is entering a high-volume segment that has long been ruled by Yamaha and other Japanese rivals. By offering sharp performance, premium hardware, and KTM's signature sporty character at a more accessible price point, the brand could shake up the 160cc performance bike space. If priced right, these India-first KTMs might just become the go-to choice for riders graduating from commuter bikes to their first true performance machine.
