FASTag has recently helped in the recovery of a stolen Mahindra Scorpio in Mumbai. The SMS alerts and notification of the car along with its GPS installed have helped greatly in the recovery of the stolen vehicle.

The SUV in question is a Scorpio belonging to the city-based builder Mr Rajendra Jagtap, purchased in August 2019. The owner of the vehicle received two FASTag notifications for deduction of Rs 35 on Monday (23/12/2019) for being driven at 4:38 am from Talegaon toll booth and 5:50 am from Panvel (on Pune-Mumbai highway). The vehicle was stolen from Karvenagar, Pune.

The owner of the vehicle wasted no time to seek the help of police. A quick chain of actions between Pune control room and Kasarvadave police helped the Mahindra Scorpio to be recovered near Hiranandani Estate alongside Ghodbhandar road in Thane using the FAStag notifications and GPS locations. However, the culprits had already fled the scene and a search team is looking for them.

FASTag, which was recently introduced in the Indian highways for a better and quick toll collection comes handy for regular toll users, as it enables automatic deduction while passing across different tolls. The tag enables easy and smooth trip on highways without halting for the cash transaction.

FASTag of every given vehicle is linked to a prepaid account from which the necessary toll amount is deducted at the time of availing the highway. The tag employs Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology and comes fixed on the vehicle's windscreen. It can be used only after the account linked to the tag is active. The Government of India introduced and mandated this new form of digitalised transactions across various highways to reduce vehicular traffic at the toll plazas.
