Mahindra Thar 5 Door Spied Again: Interior Details Leaked

Mahindra Thar 5 Door is one of the most highly anticipated launches from the brand this year. And why not? The larger sibling to the 3-door Thar has been caught testing on a regular basis from the past year and also promises one of the most required additions, the extra 2 doors. Mahindra aims to take away the blemishes of the 3-door version with its less family-friendly second-row seating.

But why do we say that this might be a lower trim? Well, it is no surprise that when the interior misses out on an infotainment system completely, it means a lower trim. The spy shots reveal a missing touchscreen, an analogue instrument cluster in place of the expected digital cluster. However, since the steering-mounted controls and front armrests are visible, this might not be the base model.

Peeping at the second-row seating, you can see the seat armrests along with AC vents for the rear passengers. This is in line with the previous spy shots where the rear passenger seating was already revealed with these add-ons. In terms of features, the higher-spec trims will offer plenty more than the 3-doored version. You will get a bigger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster along with a similar-sized touchscreen infotainment. On top of this, a 360-degree camera, single pane sunroof, 6 airbags, and front parking sensors to name a few.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Under The Hood

Above: New alloy wheel design of the Thar 5 Door

The Thar 5 Door will retain the mechanics from the 3-door version. While it will come with the same 2.0-litre petrol and the 2.2-litre diesel mills, the engines will be re-tuned for higher power and torque figures. Expect these to hover somewhere near the Scorpio-N figures. It will be launched with a 4WD variant only at its debut. However, the RWD version is expected to come at a later date, mimicking the journey of the current smaller sibling.

Expect it to debut on August 15, 2024, with a launch slated towards Q4 of 2024. Upon its arrival, it will directly rival the upcoming Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Jimny in the segment.

Verdict

Thar 5 Door is a result of the Achilles heel of exisitng 3-Door Thar. While it is an excellent off-roader and a proper enthhusiast vehicle. it could never be a family vehicle. Balancing it with an easy and direct rear seat access will help it to score the brownie points that it always missed out on.
