Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is all set to launch tomorrow, and this is going to become the first CNG-powered vehicle for private buyers in the Mahindra lineup. Also, the brand has posted multiple teasers, amping up our excitement ahead of launch. So, here are the top 5 things to know about the XUV 3XO CNG before the final day.
Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG
Twin Cylinder Technology
Mahindra has adopted Tata. Cars style of offering CNG in a smart package, with a twin cylinder instead of a single cylinder. It will be placed neatly underneath the floorboard and will leave a good amount of space for luggage. We know this because photos have been leaked ahead of launch. Now, the standard boot space in the XUV 3XO is measured at 364 litres, and after the twin cylinder, we think the left space will be somewhere around 150 to 180 litres, which is still great. To put this in context, the other car in the sub-4 metre segment SUV that offers this CNG setup is the Tata Nexon iCNG, so that's why we said, Adopted the Tata. Cars' style.
Mated To 1.2 MPFi Petrol Engine
The Mahindra XUV 3XO is available with a total of three engines: two turbo petrols and one diesel. To keep the prices affordable and for better tuning, Mahindra might pair CNG with a 1.2L MPFi petrol engine, the first option among three. On paper, this motor makes 112 PS and 200 Nm of torque, but after CNG is injected from multiple points in the pistons, the power might drop to 100 PS and 170 Nm of torque, which is still a great trade-off for the high fuel efficiency one will be getting.
22 to 23 km/kg of Fuel Efficiency
91Wheels believes the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG will have a claimed fuel efficiency of somewhere between 22 and 23 km/kg (ARAI), considering its 1.2L MPFi petrol engine ARAI figure is 18.2 kmpl. These numbers might go up but won't go down, as any car that comes with factory-fitted CNG has a claimed mileage of more than 20 km/kg. To add more, in city driving it will be somewhere around 16 to 17 km/kg.
AMT Gearbox
The CNG variants will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and an AMT gearbox, we believe. Offering CNG with an AMT has become a popular way of making CNG cars feel on par with their petrol counterparts. Mahindra does offer an AMT gearbox in the XUV 3XO, but only with the diesel engine. 91Wheels says this gearbox choice will be offered because the car is also one of the more premium options in its segment and is known for its top-notch features. So, with the ease of automation, the overall driving experience won’t feel like a compromise.
Rs 8.50 Lakh Expected Price
The expected launch price of the XUV 3XO CNG is 8.30 - 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Its direct rival, the Tata Nexon iCNG, starts at Rs 8.34 lakh (ex-showroom), and to make a good fight, this price will be interesting. The top end will cost around Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). Around 7 to 8 variants will be on sale, from MX1 to AX5L.
So, these are all the top things one should know before the launch. This is going to be a major turning point for the 3XO brand, as CNG sales are through the roof at present and will escalate further as time moves forward.
