Mercedes-Benz India: A Journey from 1995 to 200,000 Cars

This achievement not only underscores the brand's enduring commitment to India but also solidifies its position as the country's leading luxury automobile manufacturer. From assembling its first car in 1995 to hitting the 200K mark in 2025, Mercedes-Benz has significantly ramped up its local production capabilities. What took nearly two decades to achieve for the first 50,000 cars was exponentially accelerated, with the latest 50,000 vehicles produced in just over two years.

India: A Strategic Hub in Global Operations

India continues to play a strategic role in Mercedes-Benzs global manufacturing footprint. The Chakan facility, which has operated entirely on renewable energy since 2022, has become a benchmark in quality, sustainability, and innovation. It is the only plant outside Germany to have produced the prestigious Mercedes-Maybach S500 and is currently responsible for manufacturing 11 high-end models, including electric offerings like the EQS Sedan and the recently launched EQS SUV.

Mercedes-Benz India: Officials Say

Speaking at the rollout event, Dr. Burzer highlighted India's growing importance within the brand's global strategy. "India has shown tremendous potential as a center for high-quality automotive production. Our team's ability to manufacture both ICE and electric vehicles under one roof is a testament to their skill and adaptability."

Adding to the sentiment, Santosh Iyer noted, "Our Chakan plant is at the heart of our operations. As demand for luxury mobility continues to grow, this facility ensures that we can respond quickly and effectively while maintaining global standards."
