MG Tomahawk Bookings Open In India – Everything You Need To Know

After having recently showcased their ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology) platform, JSW-MG is finally gearing up to launch their first vehicle based on this new platform in India. Named the Tomahawk, this new electric SUV will be positioned as a premium and a more spacious 7-seater alternative in the market. That said, MG Tomahawk bookings have already begun as JSW begins their onslaught of launches for the Indian festive season.

Based on the Wuling Starlight 560

The MG Tomahawk is essentially going to be the rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560 that is being sold in various markets in Southeast Asia. It is worth noting that the Starlight 560 actually is the next-generation model of the Baojun 530 (which is sold as the Hector in our markets), while the Tomahawk here would be an addition to the Hector lineup for the time being.

Powertrain on offer

While there are two powertrain choices on offer for this vehicle in international markets, the pure electric version of the Tomahawk is going to make its way to our shores first. The Tomahawk EV will most likely get a single, front-mounted electric motor which delivers a peak power and torque output of 201 bhp and 310 Nm, respectively. Battery duties are going to be handled by a 69 kWh LFP unit, which should be good for a rated range of 530 Km as per the CLTC (China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle). Expect a real-world range of anywhere between 400-425 km.

MG Tomahawk Features

As is the case with their other vehicles, JSW-MG is going to ensure that most variants of the Tomahawk are loaded with features. Powered tailgate, memory seats, leatherette upholstery, 12.8-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof and a fully digital gauge cluster for the driver are some of the MG Tomahawk features that are expected to be available for the customers.

Dimensions and Space

At 4.7 meters long, the Tomahawk is going to be roughly around the same size as a Tata Safari or a Mahindra XEV 9S. Going by the teaser, a 7-seat layout is along expected lines with a bench seat setup in the middle. At 2981mm (going by the Wuling Starlight 560 spec), the MG Tomahawk wheelbase is expected to be the best in class as well.

Pricing and Positioning

From what I can understand, JSW-MG are most likely going to position the Tomahawk above the Windsor EV and probably on par with the ZS EV. In fact, the specifications suggest that this vehicle may eventually replace the ZS EV, which is a great vehicle but getting too long in the tooth now. From what we know so far, the upcoming MG Tomahawk price is likely to start from Rs 18-20 lakh (ex-showroom), while the range-topping variant is expected to cost around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
