The year 2021 started amazingly well with brand new cars and facelifts rolling in but in just four months, the auto industry again took a dip. The country is in lockdown and several carmakers are refraining from launching the new products. India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki too is tight about launching the new 2021 Celerio. Earlier, the expected launch for the new 2021 Maruti Celerio was in mid-May but we are now expecting it to be launched in June or July.
According to ACI, the new Celerio will be based on the advanced Heartect platform that is the same as Wagon R and S-Presso. We believe that because of this newer platform, the new Celerio will be longer in length and offer more wheelbase to keep the rear passengers at a comfortable pace. Similarly, an increase in boot space is also appreciated with the newer model.
Mechanically, the new Celerio is expected to come in two engine options - a 1.0L petrol and a more powerful 1.2L petrol for the mid-spec and higher variants. The 1.0L petrol will be the same as found in S-Presso and VXI and VXI(O) of Wagon R. The bigger 1.2L found in VXI(AMT) and further makes 82 bhp with 113 Nm of peak torque. Once launched, both the engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and we expect AMT in both engine options.
Like the exteriors, the interiors too will be updated for the new Celerio. The dashboard will be revamped and you get new dials and AC set-ups. Similarly, a larger touchscreen infotainment system is expected with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The steering wheel will be sourced from the Wagon R and will carry music and calling functions.
The overall cabin design takes inspiration from the already lined up Maruti cars. Like the vertical AC vents in the middle and rotary knobs at the side or the cup holders with cubby holes to place your stuff. We believe that even the top-spec variants of the Celerio will get manual AC only. One 12V power socket will be placed at the front while the top-spec variants will get another one for the rear passengers too.
As far as the pricing goes then the current generation is sold between Rs 4.65 lakh to Rs 5.90 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. We expect the newer version to be offered with a little premium but not too much. Once launched, it will rival Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro.
