Renault Triber is set to receive a major mechanical upgrade, with Renault planning to introduce a turbo-petrol engine along with a factory-fitted CNG option later in 2026. Renault Triber: Turbo Petrol Engine Finally Coming

The updated Renault Triber is expected to get a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This unit, internally known as HR10, is already seen in models like the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. Unlike the current naturally aspirated engine, this turbo unit produces around 100 hp and 160 Nm of torque. The added torque, especially at lower revs, should make a noticeable difference in everyday driving, particularly when the vehicle is fully loaded with passengers and luggage. Transmission options are expected to include both a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic, giving buyers more flexibility.

Factory-Fitted CNG Option with Turbo Power

A key highlight of this update is the introduction of a factory-developed CNG version. Unlike earlier dealer-level retrofit kits, the new setup will be integrated at the manufacturing stage. The CNG system is expected to use a dual-cylinder layout positioned under the boot floor, which should help retain usable luggage space, a critical factor for a family-focused MPV. Interestingly, this version will be paired with the turbo-petrol engine rather than the standard naturally aspirated unit. This approach is likely to offer a better balance of performance and fuel efficiency, addressing two major buyer expectations in one go. It remains to be seen whether the CNG variant will also be offered with an automatic gearbox.

The Renault Triber continues to be based on Renault's compact architecture, which has now been updated and renamed RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform). This revised platform is expected to support the new powertrain options while maintaining structural efficiency and cost-effectiveness. These changes also ensure that the Triber remains competitive in terms of packaging and practicality.

Since its launch, the Triber has been appreciated for its flexible seating layout and affordability. However, the lack of a more powerful engine has been a consistent drawback. With the addition of a turbo-petrol engine and a factory-fitted CNG option, Renault is effectively expanding the MPV's appeal. The move not only enhances performance but also strengthens its position in a segment where efficiency and running costs are key decision factors.

The updated Renault Triber with turbo petrol and CNG options is expected to be introduced around SeptemberOctober 2026.

Verdict

The upcoming update to the Renault Triber could significantly enhance its overall appeal. By addressing the long-standing issue of underwhelming performance and introducing a more practical CNG solution, Renault is making the Triber a more well-rounded offering and keeping up with the traction that the recently launched Duster brought with it.
