Toyota Rumion Gets New Base 'E' Variant- Now Starts At Rs 9.56 Lakhs

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Toyota Rumion E MT launched at Rs 9.56 lakh (ex-showroom)
  • Starting price reduced by Rs 95,000; Closes gap on the Ertiga
  • Rumion lineup now offered in four trims: E, S, G and V

Toyota has expanded the lineup of the Toyota Rumion with the introduction of a new entry-level E MT variant, priced at Rs 9.56 lakh (ex-showroom). With this move, Toyota has significantly lowered the starting price of the MPV by nearly Rs 95,000, making it more accessible for budget-conscious buyers looking for a practical 7-seater. Positioned below the earlier base S MT trim, the new variant focuses on essential features while skipping some convenience and cosmetic equipment available in higher trims. Toyota Rumion Base 'E' Variant: Exterior Design

Although the Toyota Rumion E MT is the base variant, it retains much of the styling seen on the higher trims. The MPV continues to feature the large front grille with chrome surrounds along with a chrome garnish on the front bumper, helping it maintain a premium appearance despite being the entry-level option. However, there are a few cosmetic differences when compared with the S variant. The E trim does not get body-coloured door handles or ORVMs, and the turn indicators are placed on the front fender instead of being integrated into the mirrors.

Despite these changes, the MPV still gets LED tail lamps and 15-inch steel wheels with silver wheel caps, ensuring that the overall design remains familiar and appealing. Toyota continues to offer the Toyota Rumion in five colour options, including Spunky Blue, Rustic Brown, Enticing Silver, Cafe White and Iconic Grey, all of which are available with the E MT variant.

Interior & Features

Inside the cabin, the Toyota Rumion E variant follows the same dual-tone beige and black interior theme as the higher trims. The dashboard and door panels feature silver accents, which help maintain a clean and modern look. Being a base variant, the equipment list focuses on essential comfort and usability. The MPV gets manual air conditioning, power windows, central locking and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel. The instrument cluster is an analogue unit paired with a colour multi-information display that shows key information such as fuel consumption and other vehicle data.

However, several convenience features available on higher variants are missing in this trim. The Toyota Rumion E MT does not come with an infotainment system, which means it also skips features like Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration, and steering-mounted controls. Rear passengers also miss out on dedicated AC vents, while the driver does not get a centre armrest.

Even though the Toyota Rumion E MT is positioned as the entry-level variant, Toyota has ensured that safety remains a strong point. The MPV comes equipped with six airbags as standard, along with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill hold assist and ABS with EBD and brake assist. Rear parking sensors, central locking and an engine immobilizer, and more are also included. However, a few safety-related features found on higher variants are absent here. These include a rear parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front fog lamps, and some more.

Engine and Transmission

Toyota Rumion

The Toyota Rumion E MT continues to use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that powers the rest of the lineup. This engine produces 103 PS of power and 139 Nm of torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Since the E variant is designed as an entry-level offering, it is available only with the petrol-manual combination.

The Toyota Rumion primarily competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, as both MPVs share the same platform and mechanical components. With the introduction of the E trim, Toyota has managed to bring the starting price of the Toyota Rumion closer to that of the Ertiga, making it a more competitive option in the segment.

Verdict

The launch of the Toyota Rumion E MT significantly improves the MPV's accessibility by lowering its starting price by nearly Rs 1 lakh. While the new base variant does sacrifice some convenience and infotainment features, it continues to offer the essentials such as a spacious seven-seat layout, a reliable petrol engine, and a comprehensive safety package with six airbags as standard. For buyers who prioritise practicality and affordability over premium equipment, the Toyota Rumion E variant could serve as an attractive entry point into Toyota's stable.
