This vehicle was first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in its prototype form. Exactly one year later, the car has finally been unveiled in its production avatar. While the battery specifications and feature list remain similar, there are a few design changes that separate it from the e-Vitara. The most noticeable difference is at the front, where a smiling face-like appearance is created by the headlamps and the gloss-black finished grille.

For its debut, Toyota is offering the Urban Cruiser Ebella with two battery pack options, both paired with a front-wheel-drive layout. The smaller 49 kWh battery is mated to a 144 PS electric motor producing 189 Nm of torque and is aimed at efficiency-focused buyers. Meanwhile, the larger 61 kWh battery is paired with a more powerful 174 PS motor, also generating 189 Nm of torque, and delivers an ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km, positioning it among the longest-range electric SUVs in its segment.

Interior

Step inside, and the cabin follows a modern and minimalistic design theme. The dashboard layout is centred around a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, complemented by a 10.25-inch TFT digital instrument cluster. A two-spoke steering wheel, floating centre console and fixed glass roof are part of the interior layout, contributing to a sense of space inside the cabin.

Ambient lighting and the use of soft-touch materials are also offered, aligning the interior with current expectations in the electric SUV segment. On the safety front, it is equipped with Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, six airbags, and ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, over-speed and stagger warnings, and electric rear defogger aim to ensure comprehensive occupant protection and driver confidence.

Verdict

Pricing for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is yet to be announced, though it is expected to start in the Rs 13 - 14 lakh range (ex-showroom). At this price point, the feature list appears conservative, and limitations such as boot space could be a consideration for buyers. Additionally, competition in the electric SUV segment has intensified significantly, with newer rivals offering more contemporary design and technology. As a result, both the Maruti and Toyota versions feel slightly dated in terms of overall presentation, even before their official market launch.
