Yes, this segment is ruled by the Ertiga, however, there's a new MPV that might mark its entry into the Indian market soon. Toyota Avanza is quite popular in the global market and if launched, it will rival the Maruti Ertiga. Toyota Avanza vs Maruti Ertiga - Looks and Colour Options

At the front, the Toyota Avanza gets slim headlights with an enlarged grille design, ertiga-styled fog lights unit and a sharp bumper layout. From the sides, the 17-inch alloy suits the MPV well and so does the flared wheel arches. Do notice the rising window line in the quarter window at the rear. Unlike the front, the rear design gets a subtle tone and the horizontal taillights look good. As of now, the colour options of the Avanza is not yet disclosed.

Maruti Ertiga gets an age-old design that is due for a facelift soon. At the front, it gets a chrome studded grille and with the headlights merging into it gives the MPV an engaging look. The 15-inch alloys do the job but the aesthetics can surely be improved with the upcoming facelift. The rear is what pleases the most with its three-part taillight design on to the D-pillar. Maruti Ertiga is available in five different colour options - Pearl Metallic Oxford Blue, Metallic Silky Silver, Pearl Metallic Auburn Red, Pearl Arctic White and Metallic Magma Grey.

Both the MPVs stand at 4395 mm long but it is the Avanza that gets an additional 10 mm of wheelbase and height respectively. Maruti Ertiga is wider by 5 mm than the Toyota Avanza. In terms of ground clearance, Avanza scores higher at 195 mm compared to 180 mm of the Ertiga.

Toyota Avanza vs Maruti Ertiga - Engine and Transmission Options

As for the international market, Avanza gets a 1.3-litre engine paired to a CVT unit, however, with the Toyota-Maruti Alliance, this unit won't be available in the Indian market. Instead, Toyota will continue to use the trusted 1.5L, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that is used in the Ertiga.

This unit generates 103 bhp at 6000 RPM with a peak torque of 138 Nm at 4400 RPM. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and also gets a 4-speed torque converter as an option.

Toyota Avanza vs Maruti Ertiga - Features

The homegrown Indian carmaker offers a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets an automatic climate control, engine start/stop button, multi-function steering wheel, projector headlights and more such features.

On the other hand, Toyota Avanza gets a bigger 9.0-inch touchscreen unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, electronic parking brake and more. These features are available in the international markets and we expect Toyota to bring a bunch of these in the Indian market as well.

Toyota Avanza vs Maruti Ertiga - Prices

Maruti Ertiga is on sale with a starting price of Rs 8.11 lakh and fetches till Rs 10.84 lakh. We can expect Toyota Avanza to be priced higher than the Ertiga as it offers more features and safety. The expected price range could be from Rs 9.90 lakh to Rs 13.99 lakh. All prices stick to ex-showroom, Delhi.
