Mahindra is soon going to launch a new affordable variant of Thar. The 2023 Mahindra Thar RWD will debut in the coming days. However, ahead of its official debut, its official brochure is now available online. Mahindra has uploaded the details of it on the official website. Additionally, our industry sources tell us that some Mahindra dealers have already started taking the bookings of it unofficially. Read more details below.

2023 Mahindra Thar RWD Brochure Details

Speaking of the newly uploaded brochure of Thar RWD, the details are exciting to note. First thing first, it will get two engine options. The petrol one is the same 2.0-lt that is available on the 4X4 variants. This engine makes a peak power of 150 bhp & 300 Nm of peak torque. Additionally, 6-speed MT & AT gearbox options are offered along with it. Meanwhile, the major change is to the diesel engine. Thar RWD features a new 1.5-lt diesel engine. This engine will not only make the car light but also helps in tax reduction. The power & torque figures of it are 115 bhp & 300 Nm respectively. Both of the engine options will get RWD as standard.

Apart from this, there are no such changes to the overall model. The shape, styling, and features are also more or less the same as that of the 4X4 variants. This means cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system, electric ORVMs, & roof mounted speakers will be offered unchanged on it. Meanwhile, the weight reduction means that the fuel economy of Thar will go up. However, the official ARAI figures still have time to be unveiled. Also, the reduction in parts and small engine size means that it will have less cost as well. We're expecting that the Thar RWD will be at least Rs 1.5-2 lakh cheaper than the 4X4 variants. Hence, its starting price can be as low as Rs 11 lakh.

Verdict

Maruti Jimny 5-Door is going to launch on 11 January. Upon its launch, it will become a strong rival to the Thar. However, the government of India recently revised the SUV rules. Hence, Mahindra is eyeing to spoil Maruti's party by introducing this affordable variant. Meanwhile, our industry sources are telling us that some dealerships have already begun the unofficial bookings of it. Additionally, Mahindra Thar 5-Door is also scheduled to be launched soon which will rival Force Gurkha 5-Door directly.
