Citroen eC3X Teased Ahead Of Launch: Visual Tweaks & More

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • New refreshed LED lighting.
  • New alloy wheels.
  • To continue with same 29.2 kWh battery.
  • Cabin to offer premium materials.
  • More features and improved safety.

Citroen is preparing to give its electric hatchback a much-needed update. After refreshing its petrol-powered lineup with feature-rich 'X' versions last year, the French carmaker is now turning its attention to the eC3. Dubbed the Citroen e-C3X, the updated electric hatchback has been teased officially ahead of its launch and is expected to bring meaningful upgrades in areas where customers wanted more, namely cabin quality, comfort, and equipment. Design: Inspired By Citroen's Recent Refresh Strategy

Over the past year, Citroen has systematically updated its Indian portfolio. The C3, Aircross, and Basalt all received midlife revisions that introduced better equipment levels, improved cabin materials, and subtle styling enhancements. Each of these refreshed models adopted an 'X' suffix, signalling their upgraded status. The Citroen eC3 was the only model left out of this transition. With the arrival of the eC3X, Citroen appears ready to complete the transformation of its entire mainstream lineup.

The eC3X isn't expected to undergo a complete design overhaul, but Citroen has introduced enough changes to make it look noticeably fresher than before. Updates are set to include a redesigned front bumper with silver detailing, new LED daytime running lamps, LED fog lamps, integrated turn indicators on the outside mirrors, and a fresh set of dual-tone alloy wheels. Combined with revised lighting elements, these updates should help the electric hatchback align more closely with Citroen's latest design language while retaining its familiar silhouette.

Cabin To Feel More Premium

One of the biggest criticisms of the current e-C3 has been its relatively basic cabin. Citroen appears to have addressed this with a comprehensive interior refresh. The updated eC3X is expected to receive a significantly improved cabin featuring premium leatherette upholstery for the seats and dashboard, adjustable headrests, and a revised interior layout. The familiar 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system is likely to be retained, as it remains competitive for the segment. Overall, the changes are aimed at improving perceived quality and making the cabin feel more upmarket than before.

Safety is another area where the eC3X is expected to take a meaningful step forward. Citroen is likely to equip the updated hatchback with six airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), addressing one of the major shortcomings of the current model. These additions should make the eC3X a more rounded package and bring it closer to current segment expectations in terms of occupant protection and safety technology.

Powertrain Remains Unchanged

Under the skin, the updated model is expected to carry over the same electric powertrain as the outgoing model. It will continue to use a 29.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 57 ps and 143 Nm of torque. Citroen is unlikely to make any changes to performance or battery specifications, meaning the driving experience should remain largely unchanged. The battery pack is still among the larger units offered in the affordable EV space and offers a claimed range of 246 kms on a single charge.

Expected Pricing

The current pricing starts at Rs 12.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and is expected to be retained around this range only, helping it become more competitive in India's growing EV market.

Verdict

The Citroen eC3X may not bring more power or additional range, but it doesn't necessarily need to. The update focuses on the areas that matter most to prospective buyers, those being better interiors, improved features, enhanced safety, and a more polished overall experience. By retaining its practical battery pack and roomy cabin while addressing previous shortcomings, the update has the potential to evolve from a fleet-focused EV into a genuinely appealing option for private customers. Its success, however, could ultimately depend on how aggressively Citroen prices it at launch.
