JSW and Jaecoo

Before taking a deep dive, let's clarify one thing - Jaecoo and JSW are two different entities. Jaecoo is a Chinese car manufacturer, while JSW Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate. The latter is bringing the former to India. Most likely, they will introduce the electric version first; however, the unit we spotted was a plug-in hybrid. This means the vehicle can run on both an internal combustion engine and an electric powertrain, and both require charging or refuelling.
Jaecoo J7 PHEV

This is the big news as Jaecoo J5 is coming to India, and now we have seen the J7 PHEV - giving a hint that this might also be in the lineup. But the most interesting thing is its plug-in-hybird setup - equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, forming a strong plug-in hybrid system that produces a combined output of around 330 hp and over 500 Nm of torque.

It uses a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and is primarily configured with a front-wheel-drive layout. One of its key highlights is the 18.3 kWh battery pack, which offers a claimed pure electric driving range of over 100 km, while the combined range with a full tank and charge can stretch to nearly 1,200 km. The battery supports both AC and DC fast charging, making it practical for daily commutes as well as long-distance travel.

If launched in India, it will be a oneof-a-kind vehicle, but it will compete in the segment with the Mahindra XEV 9e, Tata Harrier EV, and others. In the images, the car is seen in a white colour, featuring aero-insert alloy wheels, while its signature straight-line design looks striking. Lastly, the expected price could be around Rs 21 lakh to Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom) if it is launched in India.
Verdict
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV stands out as a strong and unique plug-in hybrid SUV with an impressive electric range, modern features, and solid performance. If priced right, it could appeal to buyers looking for an efficient yet powerful alternative to conventional SUVs, though it focuses more on comfort than driving excitement.
