How FASTag Works For Return Journeys

Recently the transport minister, Nitin Gadkari announced the One Nation One FASTag scheme which came into effect from December 15, 2019. FASTag allows you to skip the long queue which is often seen at toll plazas.

FASTag is a reloadable tag which allows an automatic deduction of toll which carries out a cashless transaction. The tag is only valid for one vehicle and has to be recharged to carry out the process.

This tag uses a Radio Frequency Identification technology which helps in paying toll taxes while the vehicle is in motion. It is placed at the windscreen of your vehicle from where the sensor reads out the tag and the payment is done.

Here, in this article, we will tell you how the FASTag works for the return journey. Now, mostly when you are covering distances on highways and you are at a toll plaza and when the toll operator asks you that do you want a single or toll for a double journey.

Basically, that is asked for your own benefit. If you are travelling somewhere and you know that you will return to your place in the next 24 hours then people opt for the double toll. It saves them money and time.

Similarly, the case works with the Fastag as well. Suppose you are going from A to B and there is only one toll of Rs 30. (The charge is Rs 30 for a single journey and Rs 45 for the double). Now you are coming back from B to A within 24 hours only then you will be charged Rs 15 only for the trip. And if you wish to travel again with the same route, a fresh toll amount will be charged.

So FASTag uses an automated technology which detects the amount and duration of return journey with the sensor placed at the toll plazas. The tag not only saves you time but smartly saves your pocket too.

FASTag can be availed at any of the following banks - Syndicate Bank, HDFC Bank, IDFC Bank, AXIS Bank, ICICI Bank, Paytm Payments Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Equitas Small Finance Bank, Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India.  If you have just brought a new vehicle in then you need not worry as the FASTag comes in the place and you only need to recharge it.

The recharge for any FASTag can be done via Debit/Credit Card, NEFT/RTGS/, Netbanking or even through Paytm. One might also recharge the FASTag via toll operators. A minimum of Rs 100 is necessary for the recharge and up to Rs 1,00,000 can be kept in the FASTag.
