Hyundai Creta Hybrid Coming In 2027

2024 Hyundai Creta Facelift

The forthcoming hybrid system of the Hyundai Creta will ingeniously leverage a hybridised version of Hyundai's familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, a similar approach seen in its sibling, the Kia Seltos. This addition will complement the existing engine lineup: the spirited 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol; the punchy 160hp, 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol; and the efficient 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel. Expected to hit the market in 2027, following Hyundai India's debut of another new hybrid SUV positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson, the Creta hybrid is set to face a competitive field.

2024 Hyundai Creta

It will go head-to-head with established players like the upcoming Kia Seltos hybrid, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, alongside anticipated new entrants such as the Renault Duster hybrid and its Nissan counterpart. This strategic move will expand the Creta's already diverse portfolio to an impressive four engine choices: two robust petrol units, a dependable diesel, and the newly confirmed petrol-hybrid.

Creta EV Mid-Cycle Update To Follow

hyundai

Even as the third-generation Hyundai Creta is in development for its hybrid guise, its electric counterpart, the Hyundai Creta EV, which debuted in India this January, is already slated for an update. However, this refresh will be primarily focused on design enhancements, both inside and out, coupled with feature add-ons. Enthusiasts hoping for a boost in performance might need to temper expectations, as the battery capacity, power figures, and overall range are anticipated to remain consistent with the original launch specifications. While a bump in range would undoubtedly make the Creta EV an even more appealing choice in the segment, the immediate focus appears to be on refining its aesthetics and bolstering its tech suite to align with the evolving ICE model.

Verdict

Hyundai India's clear vision is to dominate the high-volume SUV segment. Recognizing the current limitations in EV charging infrastructure and the increasing regulatory pressure from CAFE Phase 3 norms, the Korean automotive giant is strategically investing in hybrid SUVs. This approach aims to deliver exceptional efficiency and achieve significant sales volumes, not just for the domestic market but also across export avenues, demonstrating a pragmatic and forward-looking product and platform strategy. While the future might be for the EVs, the big shift is going to happen through the Hybrids, which is anticipated to be the next big thing.
