India-Bound Baojun Yep SUV Features Out; Based On MG Comet- Details

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Baojun Yep Compact SUV global debut in China
  • Based on the MG Comet Platform
  • Top-spec trim gets ADAS

Since MG Comet EV launched in India, it is getting quite some reactions, especially from urban-centric buyers. It was a city car, and now, an SUV based on similar lines is getting ready for its Indian run as well. The Baojan Yep compact SUV, which is based on the MG Comet Global Small Electric Vehicle ( GSEV) platform is out with the features list at its Global debut in China. What's even more interesting is that it comes with an ADAS suite too. It is most likely to launch in India at a later date after being rebadged by MG Motors.

Check out the specs and details about its Indian launch.

MG Comet EV-Based SUV- The Baojun Yep

Taking a look at the exteriors of Yep, it will remind you of ONE iconic American SUV! Yes, it's the Ford Bronco. While it had rounded headlamps, the boxy design and the wide view do give it an impression of the icon. It gets prominent wheel arches, a chunky bumper with 15-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a symmetrically proportional rear window.

The Yep is a really compact SUV, measuring just under 3,381mm in length, 1,685mm in width, and 1,721mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,110mm. When compared to the Comet, the Yep is 407mm longer, 180mm wider, and 81mm taller, with its wheelbase 100mm longer.

The taillight assembly gets a vertical placement. But that's not what will catch your attention, it is the LCD display screen at the back called the Car Watch that displays custom messages using a mobile app, which is an interesting element. But this feature is an optional add-on, for those who fancy a personalized message for the highway peeps.

Interior And Features

The insides of the cabin resemble a lot like you've already seen. It gets a 3-spoke steering wheel with controls for media and cruise control. The dashboard layout is almost similar as well with dual 10.25-inch displays where one works as the instrument cluster, while the other takes care of media management - as standard on the entry-level trim called Flagship.

Additionally, it also gets a glove box, which is something that's missing on the Comet EV. On top of this, it gets a battery temperature management system, a rearview camera, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable drivers seat, and four USB ports. The top-spec Deluxe trim additionally comes with ADAS tech with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, an automatic parking assist, and more.

Powertrain

It comes with a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle. This motor is good for 68hp and 140Nm of torque, while its top speed is set at 100 kmph. This power is provided by a 28.1kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery with a range claim of 303 km.

With DC fast charging, the battery goes from 30-80 percent in 35 minutes, whereas with AC charging, it juices up from 20-80 percent in 8.5 hours, as compared to the Comet EV, which takes only 5 hours to charge its 17.1kWh battery from 20-80 percent. But MG Comet EV does not have any fast charging option.

VERDICT- Since the MG Comet EV is getting good receptibility, this new SUV could enter India. While the electric segment is gaining traction, currently the Comet EV is the best foot forward by the carmaker. Going forward, more compact EVs will be making their way into the Indian market very soon. Join our Whatsapp Group Community to find out more exciting stuff about the Auto world.
