Kia Carens Clavis EV Spied On Test

While the launch is slated for June next month, the test mule appears to be out there completing its final runs to perfect the showroom product. As seen from the rear this time, the Kia Carens Clavis EV carries the familiar big size silhouette from the ICE Carens Clavis, the wheel design now gets an aero-cut design, something that reduces air drag and helps in better range efficiency. While this time around, the front profile could not be papped, looking at the previous sightings, it is all set to get a front-mounted charging socket, which, amongst all placements, is the most convenient, avoiding the need to align the vehicle in a set orientation.

The last time the Kia Carens Clavis EV was spotted testing, it retained its familiar body style with signature ice cube LED headlights, radar, and camera for ADAS, and a panoramic sunroof. However, EV-specific elements like a centrally mounted charging port on the grille, new aero alloy wheels similar to the Creta Electric, and a visible underfloor battery pack hinted at shared architecture with Hyundai's EV. This battery setup suggested slightly increased ground clearance (by 10-15mm) to avoid underbody contact. Active air flaps for battery cooling were also suspected, pointing to Kia's focus on blending efficiency with design continuity in this upcoming electric model.

Battery And Range
Coming to the battery specifications, the upcoming EV is likely to offer two options: a 42 kWh unit and a larger 51.4 kWh pack. The smaller battery is expected to deliver around 135 PS of power and an MIDC-claimed range of approximately 390 km, while the larger one could generate up to 171 PS and offer a claimed range of 473 km. It's worth noting that these figures are based on the Hyundai Creta EV, so final numbers for this model may vary. Additional features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capability, and an electric tailgate are also anticipated.
While an official launch date hasn't been confirmed yet, the launch will take place sometime in June, as confirmed at the time of the Clavis launch.
Verdict
Kia is moving fast and aims to keep its winning streak rolling on that has a lot of contributing models, like the Sonet, Seltos, and the Syros. Coming to the Clavis, it is locking horns with some big rivals, even punching above its weight on some fronts, expanding the line-up the CNG and now an EV powertrain as well. This will be a unique offering in its class as there are no other electric MPVs that cater to the masses in this price bracket.
