  • Likely to continue with exisitng powertrain options

Tata Punch is gearing up for an update with the facelift slated for launch in the coming months. However, ahead of that, the test mule has been spotted, where the interiors reveal major upgrades coming in, whereas although heavily wrapped in camo paper, the exterior seems to give off plenty of details as well. Read on to check out the images and also to know what changes and what doesn't, but before that, make sure to join the 91wheels WhatsApp Community of avid petrolheads to never miss out on any latest news and automotive updates.

Tata Punch facelift has been spied on test, and while it is still away from frequent sightings, the camo still revealed some interesting details. Looks like the facelift version is sticking to the current styling set-up with the same headlamp cluster, the cut-outs on the grille, and the fog lamp assembly. This strays away from the speculations that the new facelift version could have followed the Punch EV design cues, whereas a possibility still remains that the tweaks are likely a fitment with the existing latches that might make their way on a later date, and the follow-up test mules.

At its rear, it's the same story with a familiar tail lamp assembly and the lower bumper, making it look like it's the same outer shell. However, it is likely and also the sensible thing that the facelift model will be a distinct styling, but for now, it looks like the same styling cues as the current model. But for the interiors, with the upcoming 2025 Punch facelift, Tata Motors is aligning the micro SUV's interiors with the rest of its updated lineup. Let's see what the cabin shots reveal and what more you can expect.

Interiors: A Big Departure

The refreshed Punch is expected to get the brand's new leatherette-wrapped two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, a design element already seen on newer Tata cars. This will likely be accompanied by touch and toggle-based controls for audio and cruise functions. One of the key upgrades will be the addition of a 7-inch digital TFT instrument cluster, offering a well-organised, modern layout with ample driving information. While the 10.25-inch unit from the Punch EV is unlikely to make it to this model, the facelift will continue with a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Interestingly, as seen with the Altroz recently, the climate control panel might get a more contemporary HVAC unit and might incorporate touch-based controls (which I am not a big fan of, and find the physical HVAC controls better). The upholstery will likely stick to fabric, and the overall dashboard design is expected to remain largely unchanged, albeit with subtle refinements to enhance the cabin experience.

Powertrain

The upcoming facelift of the Tata Punch is expected to retain its well-established drivetrain. At its core will be the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 85 bhp and 113 Nm of torque, a reliable setup familiar to existing Punch owners. Transmission duties are likely to remain unchanged as well, with a choice between a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. It will also be available in a CNG guise, which trades off some performance 'punch' and boot space for added mileage, but continues to be a popular choice.

Verdict

Tata may roll out the refreshed Punch closer to the end of the year, potentially aligning its launch with the festive season to capitalise on the surge in vehicle purchases. While exterior and feature enhancements are expected as part of the update, the mechanical side appears to remain consistent with the outgoing model. With this facelift, Tata will be gearing up to intensify its rivalry with the Hyundai Exter in the increasingly competitive micro-SUV segment, offering a more refined package without straying from the strengths that made the Punch a success.
