Mahindra BE 6, XEV 9e To Soon Get More Range

Mahindra's electric SUV lineup, the BE 6 and XUV.9e, has gotten off to a promising start, with more than 6,300 units delivered since their debut in March. Demand has been especially strong for the top-end Pack Three variant equipped with the 79kWh battery, which currently makes up over 75% of bookings. In response, Mahindra is planning to offer this higher-capacity battery on lower trims to better align with customer preferences. Deliveries are being rolled out in phases, with Pack Three already in showrooms, Pack Three Select coming in June, Pack Two in July, and the base Pack 1 and Pack 1 Above versions set for August. According to Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra's Executive Director and CEO for Auto and Farm sectors, while interest exists for the more accessible variants, buyers are largely waiting to experience them firsthand before committing, a trend expected to change once display and test-drive units reach dealerships.
Mahindra BE 6 Details

Sporting a truly distinctive and somewhat quirky design that sets it apart in the Indian SUV landscape, the Mahindra BE 6 is available in five distinct variants: Pack One, Pack One Above, Pack Two, Pack Three Select, and the top-of-the-line Pack Three. It comes with a slew of modern features, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof that includes ambient lighting, dual wireless phone charging pads, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, along with keyless entry and an innovative augmented reality-based heads-up display. When it comes to safety, the BE 6 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of features, including seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, TPMS, a Level-2 ADAS, and more.

The Mahindra BE 6 is offered with two battery pack options: a 59 kWh pack providing a claimed MIDC range of 557 km, and a larger 79 kWh pack extending the range to 683 km. Both configurations utilize a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels, delivering a power output of 231 PS and 380 Nm of torque in the 59kWh version, and 286 PS in the 79kWh version.
Mahindra XEV 9e Details

The Mahindra XEV 9e is a premium electric SUV coupe offered in four variants (Pack One, Pack Two, Pack Three Select, and Pack Three), and boasts a tech-forward interior with triple 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers, a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Safety features include seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, TPMS, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and ADAS.

The Mahindra XEV 9e also comes with the same two battery choices as the BE 6. The 59 kWh battery offers a claimed MIDC range of 542 km, while the 79 kWh battery increases the range to 656 km. Similar to the BE 6, the XEV 9e's electric motor drives the rear wheels, producing 231 PS in the 59 kWh version and 286 PS in the 79 kWh version. Torque figures are the same at 380Nm.
Verdict
Range anxiety is the foundational hurdle that still plagues the EV segment and while both the Mahindra Electric SUVs offers a long range variant, exclusive to just the top of its hierarchy, the lower trims suffered due to this limitation. If introduced across the lower models, it could significantly boost the sales numbers, offering a good mix of everything for everyone kind of line-up.
