Mahindra Thar Diesel RWD Waiting Period Extends Over 1 Year: All Details

Mahindra Thar has been in high demand since its launch in the year 2020. To fulfill the demand of customers and reach buyers who just want a lifestyle vehicle and not a true 4X4 SUV, Mahindra launched the RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) version of the Thar SUV early this year. It was meant to decrease the waiting period on certain variants of Thar by giving the customers more choices. However, as of today, the Diesel RWD variants of Thar have now crossed the 1 year waiting period mark. On the contrary, the Petrol RWD variants of Thar only command 1 month waiting period. Mahindra Thar RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) Waiting Period & Other Details

Launched in January this year, the Mahindra Thar RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) variants come with either a 1.5 litre CRDe diesel engine or a 2 litre mStallion TGDi petrol engine. The diesel produces 118 PS of power & 300 Nm of torque and comes with only a 6-speed manual gearbox. The petrol produces 152 PS of power & 320 Nm of torque and comes with only a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The waiting period for the 1.5-litre Diesel Thar RWD currently stands at around 17 months. Whereas, the 2-litre Petrol Thar RWD currently has a waiting period of just about a month. When it comes to prices, the Diesel Thar RWD starts at Rs 10.54 lakh ex-showroom & the Petrol Thar RWD starts at Rs 13.49 lakh ex-showroom.

Mahindra Thar 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) Waiting Period Details

As a result of the launch of Thar RWD, the waiting period on Thar 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) has come down significantly. Currently, both Diesel & Petrol variants of Thar 4WD are having a waiting period of just about a month. Previously this used to be around 1 year. The prices of Thar 4WD start at Rs 13.87 lakh ex-showroom for the petrol variant and Rs 14.49 lakh ex-showroom for the diesel variant.

Verdict: The waiting period on the Thar 4WD has definitely come down drastically because of the launch of the Thar RWD. But the lower starting price of the Thar RWD has resulted in many customers opting for RWD Thar instead of 4WD Thar or shifting their bookings to the RWD Thar from the 4WD Thar. Thus again resulting in the year-long waiting period on RWD Thar.
