What is E20 Fuel?

Let's just start with the basics, E20 is a petrol that contains 20% ethanol mixed with 80% regular petrol. While it is being considered as a cleaner alternative to the regular petrol despite many vehicle owners expressing concerns over a drop in performance, fuel efficiency and engine's life.
Mahindra's Assurance
Mahindra and Mahindra has clarified that vehicles manufactured after April 1, 2025, are calibrated in such a way that they can handle E20 fuel without any adverse effects. Meanwhile, the vehicles older than that are not especially designed to run on the E20 blend, but are still safe to operate on the blend. Mahindra claims that customers' warranty won't be affected by using the E20 fuel in their non-compliant cars. Most vehicles manufactured before April are compatible up to E10, that is, the 10% ethanol blending in the petrol.
Why This Matters

This transition to E20 fuel is a crucial step in India's journey towards sustainable mobility, aimed at cutting emissions and reducing dependence on oil imports. However, because ethanol is more corrosive than petrol, many vehicle owners worry about engine wear, performance dips, and the impact on long-term reliability. This is why Mahindra's assurance matters; it not only protects customer trust by safeguarding warranties but also sets a strong industry precedent as automakers adapt their engines for full E20 compliance by April 2025.
